In the continuing saga of the Open Wireless Movement, the EFF will release firmware at HOPE X in order to help people share a little slice of bandwidth on their home Wi-Fi network without sacrificing privacy or security; freely sharing open Wi-Fi will supposedly put people at no legal risk since an IP is not a person. While it sounds like a happy world to live in – free Wi-Fi everywhere – how many legal battles will have to be fought and won before open wireless networks are so ubiquitous that it’s no longer “reasonable” for law enforcement to automatically investigate an IP address captured during a crime?

iCloud is pimped as a place to store any type of file and access it later from any device, but remember to log out of iCloud Control Panel or the newest edition of a forensic tool can access iCloud data without needing a password or an Apple ID.

It's not enough to blame video games on mass shootings and other violence; the game Watch Dogs was credited for teaching kids to hack for voyeurism and then named in a  Center for Internet Security cyber alert  as the inspiration for hacking electronic road signs and compromising other computer systems.

Security researchers say it's only a matter of time before organized crime will master a new class of botnets on smart homes and smart buildings. Remote attacks on automated systems might target an entire region of hospitals, set off fire alarms in airports, could take aim at server room climate control to destroy servers, hold the elderly for ransom in an automated building, or covertly target a trader in a "smart" building like a stock exchange.

The U.S. Justice Department announced that an international law enforcement operation, Operation Tovar, seized control of the Gameover Zeus botnet which also distributed the ransomware CryptoLocker. It's a big white hat win and the alleged evil mastermind,  Evgeniy Bogachev, has been added to the FBI  Cyber’s Most Wanted list. Do not delay, scan your PC now to make sure you are not infected.
