Hijra Calendar

The Islamic calendar (Hijra calendar) is a purely lunar calendar. It contains 12 months that are based on the phases and stages of the moon, and because 12 synodic months is only 12 x 29.53059=354.3671 days, the Islamic calendar is consistently shorter than a tropical year, and therefore it shifts with respect to the Christian calendar. The calendar is based on the Qur'an (Sura IX, 36-37) and its proper observance is a sacred duty for Muslims.

Unfortunately some Muslim astronomers have suggested that lunar date lines should be marked on the world map for the Muslims to begin their fasting and celebrating their Eid. According to them this would depend on the first visibility of the crescent and the date would begin form that place. The so-called curved lunar date lines always keep on changing and they pass through cities, towns and even houses! They do not abide the rules of the date line. So the Lunar date lines are impractical and meaningless. They are neither scientific nor Islamic.

Hijra Calendar is the same astronomical Lunar Calendar and the month begins and ends on conjunction (Astronomical new moon), conjunction being the last day of the month. Sometimes the conjunction falls on 29th day and sometimes on 30th day. Each phase of the moon and its angular distance indicates each date and it is like a natural calendar hung in the sky. Sometimes we cannot see the moon because of the changes in weather, but it does not make any difference in calendar dates because it is related to the motion of the moon. Its physical visibility is not the criterion. The astronomical new moon times and dates are already computed exactly for thousands of years backward and forward.

The hilal issue cannot be let to rest until Muslims do themselves right - IQRA, Vol. 19, No. 10

NEW   Letter to the Maldivian Authorities, by Ali Manikfan (PDF-Mahal language)

Abstract of the paper entitled: The Universality of Um Al-Qura calendar, the scientific Reasons.

Dr. Zaki A Al-mostafa of King Abdul Azeez City of Science and Technology: Astronomy and Geophysics Research Institute, P.O. Box 6086, Riyadh 11442, Saudi Arabia.

The first visibility of the moon is important. Some nations have used the lunar phase cycle as the basis for their calendars. Different societies have different methods (models), so they do not all have the same starting criterion and the first day of the lunar month may differ. This paper focuses, on the scientific reasons for the university of Um AlQura Calendar.

Comments by Ali Manikfan, Chief Advisor,  Hijri Committee of India:

The visibility of the crescent is not the criterion to define the lunar months mentioned in the Quran. The criterion should be manaazil of the moon according to Quran 2:189 and hadees  "Soomoo li ru'uyathihi". The Prophet SAW never in his life tried to see the Hilaal in order to begin the month after seeing it. He SAW had never ordered his companions RA to do moon sighing for him. If it was in vogue, we would find it in the tradition.

The criterion of "imkani ru'uya" is not found in Quran, Sunnah and Science. The present Ummul Qura calendar prepared by the KACST uses 'Imkane Ru'uya'. It is neither scientific nor Islamic. The months of 29 and 30 calculated by Imkane ru'uya criterion get interchanged and this is not allowed in Shariah. Knowing time of visibility of Hilaal does not serve the purpose because it is never seen at the end of the month. It could be useful only if the Hilaal is seen on the last day of the month, which never happens.

Difference of visibility allows different dates for towns and cities, which is not permitted in Shariah as it creates confusion. A date cannot represent two days at a time. We have same day all over the world and date and day must be same. It goes without saying in the perfect Islamic Shariah all cities and towns must have same date and day.

The calculated lunar dates must tally with phases of the moon (Quran 2:189) and months of 29 and 30 should not be interchanged. Quran 9:36 tells us that Allah SWT has fixed all the months on the day of creation itself.  In astronomy conjunction day is taken as the last day of the month and it is the only method which gives accurate lunar months. All other methods change the order of months of 29 and 30. This is Haraam as it comes under Nasie, intercalation. Quran 9:37

When a day of Ramadan gets into Shaban or Shawwal, fasting day becomes feasting day and vice versa. Violation of Haraam and Halaal of Allah SWT is a great sin in Shariah and repentance is necessary. Therefore our dates must be identical with the phases of the moon.

"They ask you about the phases of the moon. Tell them; they depict dates for the people and Hajj, it is not righteousness that you enter into the houses through the backdoors, but righteousness is that you are scrupulous. So, you enter into the houses through the proper doors and fear Allah that you may succeed." 2:189

The inappropriate interpretations given to this Ayath make it cumbersome. The first part, 'Phases of the moon depict the dates' does not require any explanation. All of us can know the lunar date by moon's view. This is conveyed in the words of the Prophet SAW 'Soomoo li ru'uyathihi' 'fast according to its view'.
The next part of the sentence explains how dates should be observed in the world by people living in different parts of the earth. Earth rotates in one direction and time flows without going back. So, people ahead in time must be ahead in date also. Time keeping order should not be violated. Date/day must begin on a fixed date line which separates two days of the same name. Russia has Friday while America has Thursday. America celebrating Eid before Russia is like entering through backdoors. It violates the world time keeping order.

"Waqaddarahu manaazila li tha'lamoo adadas sineena wal hisaab" 10:5 "Litha'lamoo adadas sineena wal hissab" is used in 17:12 also. It is not a repetition even though it may look alike. It is the beauty and miracle of Quran that same sentences give different meanings according to the context.
"Adadas sineena wal hissab" is the similar part. The first verse explains the purpose of the moon's manaazil, the elongation depicting the moon-age or lunar date, Here and in the other verse same word 'sineen' is used. The plural of 'Sinn' is 'sineen' and the plural of 'sanah' also is 'sineen'. Only astronomers can understand the astronomical terms. When the same meaning is used the first verse becomes ambiguous.

'Manaazil' is the elongation, moon's travel per day. It is about 12 degrees and it can be measured by our fingers. It is easy to measure at 3rd manaazil. We can measure and estimate moon-age/date and find out the beginning or end of the months a few days in advance. Manaazil serve as preliminary lessons in astronomy and mathematics. The moon is the nearest object to earth. Galileo and Newton used it to check their calculations.
"We have assigned manaazil for the moon till it returned like the old stalk of a date bunch." 36:39 Quran tells us about the last phase of the moon. Quran is silent about Hilaal, the first waxing crescent. Hilaal is useless as a harbinger of the month because it is seen on the first, after the month has already begun. If we depended on Hilaal for finding the beginning, we are lost. We will never begin fasting on 1st of Ramadan and we will never celebrate Eidul Fitre on 1st of Shawwal! We will eat on the first of Ramadan, fast on the first of Shawwal and transgress the limits of Allah!

Urjoonul Qadeem is the harbinger of the new month. We can find out the true beginning of the months by observing it. The Bedouins do it. The Prophet SAW ordered to observe and they continue it even today. Urjoonul qadeem heralds onset of the new month one day in advance. The moon rises almost with the Azan of Fajre and it is seen before sun rise, on the lowest part of eastern horizon. It vanishes after sun rise. Next day moon is not seen to earth and we know it is the last day of the month, the 'day of conjunction'.
Quran explains how crescents gradually turn to gibbous and full moon and reverse into gibbous and crescents (Hilaals) and finally like 'urjoonul qadeem' one day before the end of the month.  The moon overtakes the sun and hence moon is not visible to earth that day. Next day when the moon moves about 12 degrees away from the sun, Hilaal becomes visible. The Prophet SAW never ordered his companions to begin the month after seeing it. Searching for hilaal at the end of the month to begin the month after seeing it,  is a misunderstanding and a Bid'ah.
Arabs call waxing crescents 'manaazil al ijthima'iyyah' and waning crescents 'manaazil al isthiqbaliyyah'. Waxing Hilaals grow as the moon traverse through the manaazil and goes away from the sun. It becomes almost half on the seventh and next week it reaches the climax 180 degrees and becomes full moon to return back as it began in the beginning. We can easily check our date at these stages and by noting the rate of growth and we can easily distinguish months of 29 and 30.

"Ilm, knowledge being taken away" is one of the indicators of Qiyamah. I had a chance of praying Fajre in Masjidun Nabavi on Thursday the 28th of Ramadan 1430H (17-9-2009). After the end of Salah when I turned my face towards left I could see the crescent like Urjoonul qadeem heralding onset of Shawwal one day in advance. Even without getting up I could see it and decide that first of Shawwal would be on Saturday. But alas! No one among thousands present there had this knowledge! They all saw it and some of them photographed in their mobiles the beautiful positioning of the crescent above the artificial Hilaals fitted on the grills. Most of the Muslims fasted on Saturday (19-9-2009) 1st of Shawwal 1430H already ear-marked for the Eidul fitre!

"Las shamsu yambaghee lahaa an thudrikal qamara walal lailu saabiqun nahaari wakullun fee falakin yasbahoon" 36:40 explains how moon overtakes the sun and Urjoonul Qadeem turns into Hilaal. The meaning of the verse is: "It is not fit for the sun to overtake the moon and night is not forerunner of the day. All of them float in their orbits."If we observe the waning phases in the last quarter we can see moon approaching the sun to overtake it. The rising of moon becomes late by an hour a day. The crescents become smaller. When it rises at Azan of Subuh it is very thin like urjoonul qadeem and vanishes with the sun rise. Moon will not been seen the next day, which is the last day of the month.
'Hilaal is seen on the last day of the month!' is a rumour. It is a superstition. Hilaal is seen only on the first day after the sun set.

Omar R instituted the Hijra calendar in 17 H. The Sahaba R recollected from memory that First of Muharram of that year was Thursday. Equivalent date in the Christian calendar is 1-1-1H=15-7-622AD Thursday. A solar eclipse had occurred on Wednesday the 14th of July 622AD. This proves beyond doubt that eclipse marks the end of the Islamic month. Solar eclipse occurs only at the conjunction and the rule that the month ends on day of conjunction is derived from it.
According to Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), Eid-al-Adha of 1431H in North America would be on the day after Hajj; and Hajj is expected to be on Monday, November 15, 2010, unless Saudi authorities change that date to a date one day earlier.

FCNA should understand that dates already fixed cannot be changed by Saudi Arabia or any others. There is no change in the calendar of Allah SWT. The moon will not go out of the way. Conjunction which marks the end of the lunar month, (Quran 36:39, 40), occurs on Saturday the 30th of Zul Quida 6-11-2010 at 04:52hrs UT and Zul Hijja begins on Sunday. So, Monday, November 15, 2010, is the 9th Zul hijjah of 1431H Day of Arafa, according to the manaazil of the moon.

Saudi Arabia has committed a serious blunder by changing the Day of Arafa of 1429 H and 1430 H. (details available in : www.hijracalendar.org). They must admit the mistake and seek repentance from Allah, the oft forgiving, most merciful.
All Muslim astronomers are responsible for the existing confusion. They must explain their stand if they have any difference of opinion.

Dr. Zaki A Al-Mostafa of KACST, Dr. Muhammed Oudha of ICOP, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas of IICP and others do not follow astronomical rules in defining the lunar months. They should give up their own ideas and come back to Quran and Science, the right guidance of the Prophet SAW. They should use astronomical rules in calculating lunar months. This will put an end to the chaos by the help of Allah, the most merciful.

Calendar discrepancy
July 11, 2010 was the day of the total solar eclipse. The next day, July 12, 2010 must be the first of the next Hijri month Shaban, 1431 but the Saudi calendar Taqweem Um Al-Qura printed July 13, 2010 as the first of Shaban, 1431 Hijri. How a Hijri month starts two days after the solar eclipse? This is unacceptable from religious and astronomical point of view.

The concerned authority for the Saudi calendar must revise their criterion to rectify this mistake otherwise the mistake will be repeated many times in future.

ALI MANIKFAN ADVISOR HIJRI COMMITTEE OF INDIA

30-7-2010/19-8-1431.

The Hijerian calendar of Makkah recently introduced is based on pure Bid'ah of beginning the month after the new crescent becomes visible to the naked eye somewhere on earth. The Prophet and Sahaba never waited to see the new crescent. They began the new month when they were sure of the ending of the previous month. This was known by observing the waning crescents in the last quarter of the month. The calculations used in Hijerian calendar are based on wrong notions. 12:00 hrs UT is taken as the end of the day. Even the students of elementary classes know that a day is comprised of 24 hours. How do the inventors of Hjerian calendar take 12:00 hrs Ut as the end of the day? What will they do if the conjunction is at 12:01 hrs UT.? Their criterion will prevent them from fasting or celebrating Eid on the next day! This violates the Haraam and Halaal of Allah.

In Kerala where the time difference is about 10 minutes only, at Kasargode the moon set will be later by one or 2 minutes and at Trivandrum it will be before. This clearly proves that the inventors of the Hijerian calendar do not have the basic knowledge of astronomy. Without thorough knowledge in astronomy this subject cannot be dealt with.

The Prophet and the Sahaba knew very well that the Hilaal becomes visible only on the first day of the month after sun set. The Hilaal is never seen on the last day of the month. The Hilaal of first and second day is not seen before sunset and the first day's crescent is seen only at some places on earth. Hence the order to accept information received from other sources.

Ibn Abbas R clearly informed that the Prophet told him:" Amaddahu lirru'uyathi fahuwa lilailathin ra'aithumoohu". Allah has prepared it for observation, so the one you saw is for the night you saw it. It means that the Hilaal that is seen belongs to that day, not for tomorrow. We must realize that if we began the month on the next day after seeing the Hilaal we are losing the first day!

"See the moon and fast, see the moon and break the fast" cannot be taken literally as done by some people. It only means that we must begin the fasting on the first of Ramadan according to the moon.

"The Prophet and Sahaba began the month after seeing the crescent" is a rumor which has been given wide publicity long back. Following it blindly has jeopardized the Muslim community all over the world. It is high time that we ended such unauthorized practices. We must come back to Quran and Sunnah

I have measured the elongation this morning at sun rise. The reading is 115 degrees.
The estimated readings for the next few days till the end of this month will be as follows:

Sunday 115 degrees -12 per day
Monday 103
Tuesday 91
Wednesday 79
Thursday 67
Friday 55 deg
Saturday 43
Sunday 31
Monday 19
Tuesday 7

On Tuesday the moon will not be visible because both are in one stage (Manaazil). So Tuesday is the last day of the month and Wednesday must be the first of the next month Ramadan without any boubt.

Dear Brothers & Sisters
Assalamu Alaikum W R W B

Today Saturday is the 14th of Rajab according to the manaazil and ahillah appointed for the moon by Almighty Allah SWT on the very Day of creation. Science has proved that everything in the universe is moving perfectly without any flaw enabling us to predict the astronomical events exactly many years in advance.

Saturday morning (26 June) the moon's setting before the sun rise indicated that the moon is attaining its full size and this evening sun and moon will be in opposition - you can see the moon rising from the East while the sun sets in the West.

Astronomical data say that the moon will be partially eclipsed tonight and it will not be visible in many parts of the world. This indicates that Rajab will end in 29 days. I request observers to continue their observation and verify the astronomical predictions.

It is high time that Moon sighting Committee Worldwide stopped their childish and meaningless way of moon sighting which jeopardize the Islamic principles.

Saudi Arabia and America have begun Jumaadil Aakhir and Rajab before anyone could see the Hilaal. This proved that "See the Hilaal and begin the month" is only a myth. It is a wrong interpretation of the hadees "Soomoo li ru'uyathihi". The Moon sighting Committee Worldwide should consider this and stop their wrong method of moon sighting immediately.

Rajab had begun on Sunday. (13 June). The lunar eclipse falling on Saturday proves that the middle of Rajab (opposition or Nisf Shahr) is over by Saturday. This also indicates that Saturday the 28th of Rajab (10th July) the Urjoonul qadeem, the last waning crescent can be seen, by Fajr on the Eastern horizon, Insha Allah. The moon will be invisible on Sunday the 29th of Rajab (11th July). Sun and moon will be in the same manaazil that day. It is the conjunction day, the last day of the month.

On 11th July, the rising point of the sun and moon falls on the same compass point and a solar eclipse will occur. This marks the end of Rajab. Sunday will be the last day of Rajab and Shaban begins on Monday (12th July).

Since Jumaadil Aakhir and Rajab had 29 days each, usually the third month has 30 days. So, Shaban will end on Tuesday (10th August) .

Ramadaan will begin on Wednesday (11th August).

In sha Allah we all will begin fasting of Ramadaan from Wednesday Fajr onwards. Astronomical new moon occurs on Wednesday the 29th of Ramadan and Ramadan is over by Wednesday (8th Sep) and Shawwal begins on Thursday (9th Sep).

The Eid falls on Thursday, 9th Sep 2010

The Observers may confirm by their observations that scientific calculations are accurate.

We regret to state that moonsighting.com is encouraging people to continue the Bid'ah of moonsighting to start the months. Islamic months never begin after seeing the first crescent. If we examine the past and recent data for many years we can see that the months in Haramain where Quran was revealed always began the months before the crescent was seen to the naked eyes. This can be seen from the data collected by Dr. Khalid Shaukat for many years. The old tafsirs like Ibn Kathir, Kurtubi etc also have recorded that the first waxing crescent becomes visible to the naked eye only on the first day of the month after sun set.

Dr. Khalid Shaukat who himself is aware of the hilaal seeing only by sunset on the first day and others must realize that the lunar month should be calculated according to astronomical rules. The astronomical day changes in the world on the IDL at noon and this time is represented in UT as 00:00 hrs. Their assumption that it is 12:00 hrs UT is wrong.

It is high time that ISNA and other Muslim organizations accepted the scientific way of calculating the lunar months and ended the existing controversy about the hilaal. All Muslims must agree upon the true lunar dates according to the manaazil of the moon as ordered in the Quran 2:189..

Saudi Arabia and America having the same date and Pakistan having another date for the same day is not in keeping with Islamic norms. Dr.Sultan Alam should come forward and correct this serious mistake.

I repeat my request that it is high time ISNA gave up their wrong methods and accepted the astronomical calculations without beating about the bush.

May Almighty Allah keep all of us in the Right Path and provide a place for all of us in Jannathul Firdouse. Aameen

Wa Salaam

Dear Brothers & Sisters

Assalamu Alaikkum W R W B

Let those who have eyes see the waning crescents and find out the beginning of the month as directed in the Quran. The Hilaal is not mentioned in the Quran. Why? Quran is not the words of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).  The hilaal will not be seen on the last day of the month. Hilaal is the waxing crescent which becomes visible only on the first day of the month after the sun set. It cannot be seen before sun set. Usually the waxing crescent becomes visible before the sun set only on the third day.

Seeing the Hilaal and beginning the month on the following day was the custom prevalent in Arabia and other places before the advent of Islam. The calculation of the Jewish artificial lunar calendar is based on this visibility. Therefore their calendar is always one or two days behind. Even today the same Jewish calendar is circulated among the Muslims all over the world and a scrutiny into it will reveal that full moon falls on the 12th of the month !!!!

The word Hilaal is from "Halla"- to announce. They used to see the first crescent and announce the advent of the new month. This wrong practice which made the dates disagree with the phases of the moon was rectified by the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) when the fasting was imposed in the second year of Hijra.  Quran 2:189 points to this.

The dates of the true lunar calendar can be read from the phases of the moon. Even illiterates can do this without any difficulty. But our moon sighing brothers follow a Bid'ah and get lost in it."Summun bukmun umyun fahum laa yarjioon" says the Quran.

"Wa'in yarrow kulla aayathin laa yu'minoo bihaa wa'in yarrow sabeelal rushdhi la  yatthakhizoo hu sabeelan ........"  - "and (even) if they see all the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc), they will not believe in them. " (Quran 7:146). They practice a wrong method and put the blame on the our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) that he has ordered them to begin the month after seeing the Hilaal, which will not be visible on the last day.

On Saturday,  22nd of Jumadil Akhir (05 June 2010)  the reading of elongation measured was 89.5 degrees. The moon is almost half. Do the moon sighting friends understand from this reading  that moon is entering into last quarter? Sunday it must be about 78 degrees and the perfect crescent will be seen which indicates that next Sunday (13 June) will be the first of Rajab.

Let the moon sighing friends understand that their method of fixing the month is  based on pure Bid'ah and they will never be rightly guided if they followed the Bid'ah.

The Quran clearly explains in simple words about the moon overtaking the sun. This is the conjunction which takes place at the end of every lunar month. This is the last day of the month and this can be found out by looking for the last visible phase the 'urjoonul qadeem' mentioned in the Quran. It is seen one day before the end of the month, on the eastern horizon around Fajr. By following the Quranic instructions which the Prophet (Peace  Be Upon Him) and sahaba (RA) followed, we can find out the beginning of the month without making any mistake.

Almighty Allah SWT has assigned the phases for the moon on the very day of creation. No one can change or shift them blaming on clouds or one's vision.

Now let us observe and count the phases and see when Ramdaan 1431 will begin.

We have seen the first waxing crescent of Jumaadil Ukhra on Saturday the first of the month (15th May). We will see the last waning crescent on Friday the 28th  of the month (11th June). We cannot see the moon on Saturday the 29th    which is the last day of the month.

You all know that after the last day the first day must follow. Rajab begins on Sunday (!3th June) and we can see the first waxing crescent on Sunday, the first of Rajab,  after sunset. We will see Insha Allah  the last waning crescent of Rajab on Saturday the 28h of the month (10 July). Moon will not be visible on Sunday the 29th the last day of Rajab.

Shaban begins on Monday  (12th July) and we can see the first waxing crescent on the first of Shaban Monday after sun set. The last waning crescent of Shaban can be seen on Monday the 29th of Shaban (9th August). The moon cannot overtake he sun on that day and we complete 30
 days to  Shaban  (10th  August).

Ramadaan begins on Wednesday  (11th August) by its own righ at dawn. We can see the Hilaal on Wednesday after sun set (after ifthar of tthe first day's fasting) .

According to astronomical data Ramdaan 1431 has only 29 days. The last waning crescent can be seen on 28th Ramdaan, Tuesday morning (7th Sep). Moon will not be seen on Wednesday because it is the last day of the month.

Thursday (9th Sep) is the first of Shawwal the day of the Eidul fitre of 1431H.

Fasting on the day of Eid is declared Haram by our Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). Let us not change the fixed dates of Allah and let us observe the orders of Almighty Allah scrupulously.

May Almighty Allah keep all of us in the Right Path and provide a place for all of us in Jannathul Firdouse.  Aameen.

Wassalam,

MOON OBSERVATION REPORT

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,
Moon observation report

Moon was observed from Riyadh on Saturday 26-9-2009 at sun set. Moon phase was more than half and crescent shape had vanished and gibbous was forming. Friday evening it was slightly less than half and it was the last crescent on the waxing phase of the moon. The observers would have known by seeing it that Friday was the seventh of Shawwal and Saturday the 8th.

The Quran clearly states that the phases of the moon indicate the dates for the people. ?Hiya mawaaqeethu linnasi? 2:189  The Prophet SAW explained it: ?Ja?allahul ahillatha mawaaqueetha linnasi fasoomoo li ru?uyathihi wa afthiroo li ru?uyathihi?.? Allah has made the phases as dates for people, so you fast according to its view and celebrate EiduFitre according to its view?..

Certainly those who observed the Eidul Fitre on Sunday have wronged themselves by neglecting the Ayath of the Quraan (9:37) and the instructions of the Prophet SAW. They must repent for the great sin of neglect and disobedience.

The Prophet SAW also warned: ?Asshahru this?un wa ishroona, laa thasoomoo hattha tharawul hilaala walaa thufthiroo hattha tharouhu ??.? The month is of 29 days, so do not fast without considering the Hilaal and do not celebrate Eidul Fitre without considering it. People have failed to do this also. In spite many warnings which we made in advance people have certainly failed to observe the crescents and wronged themselves by adding a day of Ramadan into Shaban and fasting carelessly on Saturday the first of Shawwal, the Day of Eidul Fitre of 1430H of the Muslim Ummah. Allah SWT is watching over us. Let us repent immediately for the sin and mend our ways in future. Let us not be careless and commit the same blunder again in future. Allah is oft forgiving, most merciful.

Please read: ?Qul hal nunabbiu kum bil Akhsareena a?amaalan. Allazeena lalla sa?ayuhum fil hayaathid dunya wahum yahsaboona annahum yuhsinoona sun?aa. Ulaa?ikallazeena kafaroo bi?aayaathi Rabbihim waliqaa?ihi fahabithat a?amaaluhum falaa nuqeemu lahum yaumal qiyaamathi waznan? 18:103-105

Let us observe the moon carefully and throw our wrong calendars into the waste basket. They mislead us and make us transgress the limits of Allah SWT.

Last Shaban and Ramadan had 29 days each. So according to the law of motion of the moon Shawwal must have 30days. Let us observe the moon carefully. Otherwise we may make another careless mistake in Shawwal and the beginning of Zul Quiada may go wrong, which will make us commit a grave sin in observing Arafa and Eidul Adha. Please beware of the false calendars circulated among us. All calendars give wrong lunar dates for Arafa and Eidul Adha also.

Subject: Wrong dates of the Ummul Qura Calendar

The present Ummul Qura calendar dates are not according to the phases and stages of the moon as ordered in Quran 2:189, 10:5, 36:39 etc. and the dates are subjected to change often because they do not tally with the observed dates. Ummul Qura calendar is only a synonym of Hijra calendar, which was instituted in Hijra 17 during khilafah of Umar RA. This calendar must be used by the Muslim Ummah wherever they live in the world.

7 days of the week are common for all people in the world. The figure which is used to denote a week day must be same for all. But now dates of the Islamic calendar are different at different places and even in Saudi Arabia the lunar dates are treated carelessly as if they have no sanctity. I have seen Arab news and other News Papers using same date for two days. This happens because we give prominence to Gregorian dates and we believe that lunar dates prescribed by Allah SWT cannot be used in the present world. We have begun to feel that Hija calendar is out of date. May I invite your Majesty?s attention to the verse of Quran: 25:30.

So, today the Muslims are in a very bad predicament. I beseech your Majesty to put an end to this state of affairs which defame Islam, the religion of Allah!
The rules of the perfect Ummul Qura calendar were changed in 1420H due to a misunderstanding of Hadees  ?Soomoo li ru?uyathihi? by giving it a literal meaning contradicting Quran. The Ummul Qura calendar Volume containing calendars for 130 years from 1300H to 1429H must have been compiled after a thorough study by Ulema and astronomers. Then how could the rules be changed in 1420?

All artificial calendars need periodical changes when the dates go out of phase with number of days because of the defects in them. Is the calendar given to humanity by Allah, the Almighty also like that, requiring periodical changes? The Quran 9:37 forbids such meddling with the dates already fixed by Allah SW on the very day of creation.
The Govt of Saudi Arabia has published calendars for 30 years from 1420H to 1450H on wrong principles which, contradict Quran and Sunnah. This calendar has created misunderstanding in the Muslim Ummah in the world. How can people rely on the calendar when the date is changed all of a sudden without any notice? How can programs run smoothly if one depended on such unreliable dates? How can the dates of Allah SWT change when the human made dates cannot be changed? Will any one agree if we say that September 1rst of 2009 is shifted to Wednesday?

How does the present Ummul Qura calendar begin Ramadan on Saturday? According to Allah?s Nizam Ramadan 1430H must begin on Friday! Eidul Fitre which must fall on Saturday is given on Sunday? Who is responsible for this false Ummul Qura calendar which misleads the Muslim Ummah?

May I have the privilege to bring to the kind notice of Your Majesty that I have complained regarding this last year. I have posted this in the website www.hijacalendar.com. But no action has been taken in this serious matter. We should not forget that Allah is watching over all things and He is mindful of our doings.

Last year and previous year Ramadan began on the wrong day in Haramain. Most of the people believe the dates will change according to whims of the people. The Hajj of last year was held on the wrong day. Shirk is the sin which Allah will not forgive. Interfering in the Nizam of Allah and ordering people to fast on the wrong day also will be among shirk.
I have observed all phases of the moon in Sha?ban obeying the order of our beloved Prophet SAW to count hilaals of Shaban in order to begin Ramadan on the right day. All know that Sha?ban 1430H began rightly on Thursday after completing 30 days of Rajab, as hilaal had not appeared on the 29th Tuesday. But some countries have begun Sha?ban wrongly on Thursday and Friday. Why do we not advise each other? Is Knowledge has taken away from Muslim Ummah?

The hilaal of Sha?ban 1430 was seen on Thursday (23-07-2009) evening the first of Sha?ban.
The last waning crescent, like an old urjoon mentioned in the Book of Allah also seen on Wednesday (19-08-2009)
The crescent is not seen on Thursday (today) morning. This indicates that Thursday (20-08-2009)  is the last day of Sha?ban.
So Ramadan will rightly fall on Friday 21-08-2009, The entire Muslim Ummah should begin fasting on Friday.

We have counted only 28 phases. So Sha?ban has only 29 days. If Sha?ban has 30 days as given in the Ummul Qura calendar one more phase has to be created. Who can do this except Allah? But Allah will not change His plan. He has already assigned 28 phases from Thursday to Wednesday for Sha?ban 1430H. How did others get the courage to interfere in the Nizam of Allah? Eidul Fitre 1430 H falls on Saturday 19-09-2009. But the Ummul Qura calendar gives it as on Sunday.
Arafa falls on Wednesday 25-11-2009 and Eidul Adha Falls o Thursday 26-11-2009.But Ummul Qura puts Eidul Adha will be on Friday.
Therefore I request your Majesty to intervene and issue urgent orders to see that original Ummul Qura calendar is established. I also beseech your majesty to publish the original Ummul Qura calendar for a century from 1430 to 1530H and send to all Islamic Nations so that correct Nizam of Allah will be established in the world.

May peace and blessing be upon your Majesty and all of us!

RAMADAN BEGINS ON FRIDAY

I have observed the moon from Saudi in the morning of Thursday. It was a little more than half. Tomorrow morning Friday it will look like a big crescent. This is the first crescent of the waning phase. If we see this on Friday morning next Friday will be the First of next  month. That is Ramadan will begin on Friday. If you observe on Saturday morning you will surely know that it is the second day after the crescent stage. That would indicate that Saturday will be the second of Ramadan.

You can again confirm by watching in the last days of the month. You will see the shape like urjoonul qadeem on the morning of Wednesday the 28th of Shaban. The moon phase will not be seen on the morning of 29th Thursday. This is the last day of Shaban. The moon and sun will be in the same manaazil.

The hilaal will be seen on the first day of Ramadan after sun set.
We request all not to miss the fast of the first day of Ramadan.

 Moon observation report

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

This morning at 5AM (Thursday 16-7-2009) the moon was seen clearly between two clouds even though it was cloudy and drizzling here at Vallioor. The phase is less than half and the crescent has formed.
This is the first crescent on the waning phase of Rajab, indicating that next Thursday will be the first of Sha'aban.
The moon and sun were not seen simultaneously for the past two days Tuesday and Wednesday and readings could not be taken. Monday 13-7-2009 the angular distance was 118 degrees. So, this morning the estimated reading should be about 82 degrees. It is reducing at the rate of about 12 degrees per day. The estimated readings will be Friday 70, Saturday 58, Sunday 46, Monday 34, Tuesday 22, Wednesday10 degrees. The moon and sun will be in the same Manaazil on Wednesday. Thursday will be the first day of Sha'aban. The Hilaal the first waxing crescent of Sha'aban will be seen on Thursday 23-7-2009 after sun set.Observers may please check.

Rajab began on Tuesday. The claim that the first day of Rajab is Wednesday or Thursday is certainly wrong. The 29th of the month is the day on which the month begins. So, if a month has 3 days for its beginning then there will be 3 days for 29th also. This proves beyond doubt that it is not what the Prophet SAW taught and what is not in the Sunnah must be rejected. Let the astronomers or moon sighting people tell us how many phases they have counted in Jumadil oola and Ukhra. Then we can decide when Rajab began. The solar eclipse on Wednesday 22-7-2009 marks the end of Rajab. The statement of Dr, Qaradawi in his article dated 10-12-2005 informs us that the Ulema know that the solar eclipse marks the end of the lunar month even though the Muslim astronomers are not aware of it.

Furthermore since Rajab completes 30 days on Wednesday Sha'aban must begin on Thursday irrespective of the Hilaal as per the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW. This proves that the method adopted by www.hilaalsighting.com and others are totally wrong, un-Islamic and unscientific. Such methods which come under the category of Bid,ah must be stopped forthwith.

Please note that Sha'aban 1430H has 29 days only according to the manaazil and ahillah fixed for the moon. The Prophet SAW warned many times that month is 29 days and should not begin fasting without verifying it by observation of the phases. No one can count 29 phases for this Sha'aban. It is a period of 29 days from Thursday to Thursday. Friday is the first day of Ramadan. Those who still have doubts may count the number of phases they see in Sha,aban and know that Ramadan begins on Friday 21-8-2009. Another Sign of Allah is the lunar eclipse destined to take place in the middle of Sha'aban. Those who transgress the limits of Allah will not escape. Surely the grip of Allah is very strong.

Dear Brothers,
Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

I have observed the moon on Tuesday (16-6-2009), Wednesday (17-6-2009)
and Thursday (18-6-2009). The angular distance around 7AM was 88, 76
and 64 degrees respectively. The moon is approaching the sun at the
rate of 12 degrees and by Monday moon and sun will be in the same
manaazil. The moon will overtake the sun before the end of Monday and
Hilaal will appear. So, the last visible phase like urjoonul qadeem
will be seen early morning on Sunday (21-6-2009) and phase will not be
seen to earth on Monday (22-6-2009). Tuesday (23-6-2009) will be the
first of Rajab for people living on earth. The Hilaal of Rajab will be
seen on the first of Rajab (23-6-2009) in sha Allah.

Hilaal is seen only on the first of the lunar month. It is not seen on
the last day of the month.

25-6-1430/18-6-2009

Dear Brothers,
Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

This morning (Monday) at sun rise the moon was about 81 degrees away
from the sun. The moon appeared like a big crescent. This is the first
crescent in the waning phase and this indicated that next Monday will
be the first of Jumadil Ukhra. The comparatively big crescents
foretell us that Jumadil Ukhra too will end in 29 days. Rajab begins
on Tuesday. Since two months (Jumail oola and Jumadil ukhra) get 29
days consecutively Rajab must have 30 days. Rajab ends on Wednesday
and Shaban begins on Thursday. We can count 28 phases in a month of 29
and 29 phases in a month of 30.
According to astronomical data a solar eclipse occurs on Wednesday the
30th of Rajab. Shaban begins on Thursday and Ramadan on Friday, both
ending in 29 days and Ramadan ends on Friday. Shawwal begins on
Saturday. First of Shawwal is the Day of Eidul Fitre on which fasting
is forbidden. There will not be two days for a date in any month.
Observers can easily get accustomed to the natural dates shown by the
changing phases of the moon. Let us not make a mistake in beginning
Ramadan. May Allah SWT help us to understand His Signs!

MOON OBSERVATION REPORT IN JUMADIL AWWAL

The moon was observed this evening (Saturday, seventh of Jumadil
Awwal) at sunset. The angular distance between sun and the moon was
about 98.5 degrees. Jumadil Awwal began on Sunday after completing 30
days for Rabiul Akhir. The growth of the waxing crescents was
unusually fast the rate about 14 degrees per day. This indicated that
this month will have only 29 days and the next month Jumadil Akhir too
will end in 29 days. This type of observations was possible during the
time of the Sahaba and they knew how to read the dates shown by the
changing phases of the moon. They never got cheated by searching for
the invisible Hilaal at sun set.

Please continue your observation and you will see that the full moon
is earlier than in the months of 30 days. Only a few months remain for
Ramadan. We must learn the method of observation and make sure that we
begin the fasting on the right day. Ramadan 1430 begins on a Friday.

Wassalam,

7-5-1430/2-5-2009

Dear Brothers,
Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

The moon was observed in the last quarter of Rabiul Akhir, 23rd Saturday, 24th Sunday and 25th Monday. The angular distance measured 85.5, 73.5 and 62 degrees respectively. Now it is reducing at the rate of about 11 degrees per day. So, Tuesday it will be 51degrees, Wednesday 40 degrees, Thursday 29 degrees, Friday 18 degrees and Saturday 7degrees which indicates that the sun and moon will be in the same manaazil on Saturday. Saturday is the last day of this month and
the moon will not be seen on the morning of Saturday anywhere in the world. Anyone who sees it may please report it with a photograph of the waning crescent.

The last visble phase like Urjoonul Qadeem will be seen on Friday morning in many parts of the wolrd. Rabiul Akhir began on Friday and the first waxing crescent was seen in the evening. The last waning
crescent will be seen on the morning of Friday the 29th of the month. Hilaal does not appear on the 29th and 30 will be completed as per Hadees on Saturday and Jumadil Awwal begins on Sunday irrespective of
the Hilaal. The Hilaal the first waxing crescent of Jumadil Awwal will be seen in the evening of Sunday, the first of Jumadil Awwal.

I hope you all agree that we see the same moon all over the world and the lunar date must be same for all of us living in this world.

Ramadan begins on which Day?

Dear Brothers,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Thanks to Allah the Almighty who made the sun shine and the moon light

and He appointed Manaazil/Ahillah for the moon so that we may know the

count of moon age (dates) and the calculations.

How useful is the moon in telling us the count of days and months and

passage of time. The people who are stranded in loneliness will

certainly realize this. When Tom Vosmer began his adventurous Magan

voyage from Oman to India in a primitive craft he wrote: "a beautiful

half moon was hanging over head in the sky." Long back when Pandit

Jawahar lal Nehru was sent to Jail he wrote: "The new moon, a

shimmering crescent in the darkening sky, greeted our arrival here."

We know the new moon is seen on the first and half moon on the 7th of

the month.

Those who observed the moon this week would have seen a half moon on

Thursday and slightly bigger moon on Friday in the darkening sky.

Certainly that was 7th and 8th of Rabiul Akhir which began on Friday.

It is easy for the observer to know the lunar date by looking at the

moon phase. Please get acquainted with observing the moon so that we

may not commit blunders when the fasting of Ramadan comes.

Rabiul Akhir begins on Friday

Dear Brothers,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Moon was observed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the mornings.

The angular distance measured 97.5, 86.5 and 75.5 degrees respectively.

The average is about 11 degrees per day.

At this rate the moon and sun will be in the same Manaazil on Thursday and phase

will not be seen on that day. The Hilaal would appear in the evening

and Friday will be the first of Rabiul akhar, as already estimated in

the first quarter of the month. Those who have observed the moon in

the last four months which had 30days would have noticed the

difference in the crescents of this month. They are comparatively

fatter than in those months. This clearly indicated that this month is of 29 days.

The last phase Urjoonul Qadeem will be seen on 28th Wednesday morning

and moon phase will not be visible on the last day of the month.

People can easily distinguish the months of 29 and 30 by obseving the

phases of the moon.

MOON OBSERVATION REPORT

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum,

Moon was observed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the mornings.
The angular distance measured 88,77 and 66 deagees respectively. The
rate is about 11degrees and it may reduce to 10 in the last days of
the month.
So, the estimated readings would be as follows: Friday 55, Saturday 44
Sunday 34, Monday 24, Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 4 degrees which means
that the moon and sun will be in the same manaazil on Wednesday. This
is the new moon day and the phase will not be visible. Wednesday is the
30th or the last day of Safar. The next day, Thursday will be the first
of Rabiul Awwal 1430H. Please observe the waning crescents and confirm
your date.

HILAAL IS SEEN ONLY ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH AS RECORDED IN OLD TAFSIRS.

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum,

The moon was observed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the evenings:

the angular distance for Saturday 60 degrees, Sunday 72 degrees and

Monday 84 degrees, the average per day 12 degrees.

We have seen that the month of Safar began rightly on Tuesday after

completing 30 days for Muharram on Monday. There was a solar eclipse

on Monday (26-1-2009) and this marked the end of the lunar cycle, the month.

From Dr. Khalid Shaukat's site  www.moonsighting.com  we know that the

Hilaal is seen only on the first day of the month as recorded in old

Tafsirs. The hilaal is never seen with the naked eye on the last day of

the month even though it appears on the western horizon that evening.

The Hilaal of Muharram was seen on the first of Muharram Sunday and

the last phase Urjoonul Qadeem was seen on Sunday the 29th of

Muharram. The crescent was not visible in the morning even though the

moon rose a few minutes before the sun. The Hilaal too was not visible

Monday evening even though it had appeared on the western horizon

because the moon set was a few minutes after the sun set. Monday was

30th of Muharram. Safar began on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Monday (2-2-2009) was the 7th of Safar. The moon was near

meridian at sun set.

During next week we can observe the movement of the moon and notice

the difference and say whether this month will end in 29 days or 30

days. It is not difficult for the regular observer.

The astronomical data tell us that this month too is a month of 30

days. Zul Quaida, Zul hijjah, Muharram and Safar, four months end in

30 days. Four months of 30 days coming consecutively is a rare

occurrence.

MOON OBSERVATION REPORT (SAFAR 1430)

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

The moon was observed on Friday and Saturday morning at sun rise.

The angular distance about 33 degrees and 23 degrees respectively.

On Sunday it will be about 13 degrees and the last phase (urjoonul qadeem) can be seen under favourable conditions. Monday it cannot be visible even though the moon rises before the sun. The moon sets after the sun on Monday evening (30th) but cannot be seen, 30 will be completed according to Suunah.

An eclipse takes place Monday and this marks the end of Muharram.

Safar begins on Tuesday.

We have witnessed 29 phases, the first crescent was seen on Sunday the

first of Muharram and the last will be seen on Sunday morning. So, we

have counted 29 phases and 30 Manaazil in Muharram which ends in 30

days.

MOON OBSERVATION REPORT (MUHARRAM 1430)

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

I have observed the moon at sun rise this morning (Monday). The moon

had not set and it was about 12 degrees above the horizon which means

today is certainly 16th of Muharram. Those who began Muharram on

Monday have made a mistake and wronged themselves.

To His Majesty King Abdullah,

KhadimulHaramain Makkah al Mukarramah

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Subject: wrong dates of Zul Qaida in Haramain

I regret to submit that the dates used in Haramain and Saudi Arabia for Zul qaida are wrong and contradictory to Quran and Sunnah. It is a great pity that wrong dates for a sacred month are observed in the very centre of Islam. The Quran says: "Hiya mawaakeethu linnasi" informing us that the Ahillah or Manaazil of the moon must be used as dates for the mankind. Therefore our dates must tally perfectly with the Manaazil of the moon. Today Tuesday 4th of November 2008, the moon is on the seventh Manaazil and the Islamic date must be the seventh of Zul Qaida. It cannot be 5th or 6th. It is learnt from authentic sources that the date in Saudi Arabia for today is 6th contradicting the above verse of the Book of Allah SWT.

The Arabnews published from Jeddah available on the Internet gives the date for Tuesday correctly as 7th Zul qaida. Is it not a matter of concern for the Muslims that Saudi Arabia the centre of Islam could have two dates for Tuesday? I had sent a letter to your Majesty regarding loss of one day of Ramadan in Haramain. Now that Hajj is approaching and the Saudi calendar gives a wrong day for Arafa standing is confusing and misleading the Muslim Ummah all over the world. I wish to bring to the kind notice of your Majesty that Ramadan 1429 began on Sunday. The first waxing crescent of Ramadan was witnessed in many parts of the world on the evening of Sunday the first of Ramadan. On Sunday the 29th of Ramadan, last waning crescent was seen in the morning in many places. The Hilaal did not appear that evening and 30 days were completed following the Sunnah. The Eidul fitre was celebrated on Tuesday the first of Shawwal.

The first waxing crescent was seen on Tuesday evening in many parts of the world and this confirmed the beginning of Shawwal on Tuesday was correct as per the Manazil of the moon as directed in the Quran. The crescents were fat and the growth rate was fast indicating that the month will end in 29 days. Thus the last waning crescent was visible on the morning of Monday the 28th of Shawwal. The waning crescent was not visible on the morning of Tuesday the 29th of Shawwal anywhere in the world and the Hilaal must appear that evening. Therefore Zul Qaida began on Wednesday. The first waxing crescent of Zul Qaida was seen in many parts of the world Wednesday evening which confirmed the beginning of Zulqaida on Wednesday was correct according to the Ahillah of the moon. The observations made on 5th Sunday, 6th Monday and 7th Tuesday confirm that these dates are perfectly in tune with the movement of the moon. The angular distance measured 50, 60 and 71 degrees respectively. The rate of travel at 10 degrees per day in the first quarter proved that this month is of 30 days. There are observatories and observers in the Kingdom. The observers could take readings and verify the dates with the moon instead of following wrong dates in the centre making the Muslims a laughing stock for others. How can we present Islam to others if our state is like this? I pray earnestly that the matter be investigated and the wrong dates corrected immediately so that a serious mistake in the day of Arafa may not be committed for which we all will be held responsible. May Allah protect your majesty! Wassalamu alaikum watrahmathullah

Yours sincerely,

Zul Hijja will begin on Friday

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

The waxing moon of Zul Qaida was observed on three days, 5th Sunday,

6th Monday and 7th Tuesday. The angular distance measured 50, 60 and

71 degrees respectively. The rate of travel of the moon was about 10

degrees per day and the growth of the crescents of the first quarter

was comparatively slower than the month of Shawwal. This confirmed

that Zul Qida, one of the  sacred month has begun on Wednesday. The

first crescent was visible on Wednesday evening in many parts of the

world. Including Wednesday in Shawwal is certainly wrong. Allah SWT

has informed us in the Book: "Walaa thazlimoo feehinna anfusakum".

The slow rate of travel and growth of the waxing crescents of the

first quarter clearly indicated that this month will have 30 days. The

Hilaal will not appear on Wednesday the 29th Zul Qaida. 30 will be

completed on Thursday according to the Sunnah and Zul Hijja will begin

on Friday without any doubt. This can be proved by observing the full

moon and the waning crescents of the last quarter. Extreme care should

be taken not to commit a mistake in observing the Arafa which is very

important. The Prophet SAW said: "Fansukoo lahaa".

Zul Qaida begins on Wednesday

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

We saw the first waxing crescent of Shawwal on the first of Shawwal

Tuesday. We had also observed the first quarter, the full moon and the

last quarter during he course of the month and we had noticed the fast

growth of the crescents which indicated that the month will end in 29

days. This morning Monday the 28th of Shawwal we have seen the last

visible phase of the moon like Urjoonul Qadeem. Those who have seen it

will know that the waning crescent will not be seen tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow Tuesday is the 29th of Shawwal which is the last day of the

month. Today the angular distance measured about 18 degrees and

tomorrow morning it will be about 6 degrees which is too small to make

it visible. The moon phase is not visible to earth only for one day

and tomorrow is the invisible day of Shawwal. It is the new moon day

after which Zul Qaida begins on Wednesday.

If the waning crescent is visible anywhere tomorrow morning, please

report it to us with a photograph of the crescent.

Basing on our observations of the Hilaals we the Hjra committee of

India bear witness that we could count only 28 phases during Shawwal

from Tuesday to Monday and tomorrow Tuesday is the last day of

Shawwal.

MOON OBSERVATION IN SHAWAL

Dear Brothers,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

The moon was observed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The readings

were 58, 70 and 82 degrees respectively. The rate is 12 degrees per

day and Saturday is the 5th of Shawwal. The month had begun on Tuesday

irrespective of the hilaal after completing 30 days for Ramadan.

On the 7th evening moon had passed meridian at the sun set. Tuesday

evening the moon had not reached meridian at sun set. This confirmed

that the beginning of Shawwal on Tuesday was correct and the fast

growth of the crescent indicated that this month will end in 29 days.

That is the Hilaal would appear on the 29th. This will be confirmed by

the observations which will be conducted in due course.

Those who had begun Shawwal on Wednesday and Thursday are certainly wrong.

MOON OBSERVATION IN RAMADAN

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

The observation of the past two days clearly indicates that this Ramadan has begun on Sunday the 31st of August 2008. The angular distance for Wednesday was about 44 degrees and on Thursday it was about 56 degrees. This indicated that Wednesday was the 4th of Ramadan. The rate of travel for this month is less than 12 degrees per day and this indicates that this is a month of 30 days. Those who had observed the crescents of Rajab and Shaban would have noticed the slow growth of the crescents in this month. The Hilaal will not appear on Sunday the 29th of the month. According to Sunnah 30 will be completed on Monday and Shawwal begins on Tuesday irrespective of the Hilaal.

Those who have not fasted on Sunday have missed the first fast of Ramadan and those who began fasting on Tuesday have missed two days of Ramadan. They should compensate according to laws of Shariah by fasting the number of fasts lost in Ramadan after the Eidul Fitre on Tuesday.

Please note that a month will not begin on two days in the world and the Eidul Fitre of one year cannot be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

CARELESS MISTAKES IN HARAMAIN

It is highly deplorable that the Haramain have not begun fasting on Sunday the first of Ramadan. The same thing had happened last year too. This happens because of the confusion created by the Muslim astronomers who do not calculate the lunar months according to the astronomical rules. They go by sun set moon set data and say that the Hilaal cannot be seen when the moon sets before the sun. They do not realize that the sun set is local whereas the day or date is common for all in the world. How can we measure the day using the moon set?

The people who bear witness for the Hilaal get frightened when they hear that the moon has set before the sun and they do not report the hilaal. This is how the Satan cheated the Haramain. It can happen once. But how can the believer get stung twice from the same hole?

The so called Muslim astronomers who do not know the laws of Shariah publish the sun set and moon set data in websites and confuse the people. They do not know that the sun set and moon set has nothing to do with defining the lunar months. The lunar months are defined scientifically by using the new moon which can be calculated without difference of seconds. The lunar month according to Quran is the cycle of the moon around the earth measured in relation with the sun. The Phases of the moon are dates. At new moon the moon completes the cycle, the lunar month and the new cycle begins. The new moon may happen at any moment of the day and the new moon day is taken as the last day of the month. The time of new moon is immaterial as the months are counted in days, which have names. A month cannot begin at half day just as a year cannot begin at half year.

Beginning the month after seeing the crescent with the naked eye is an innovation introduced later. This was not practiced by the Prophet and the Sahaba. They decided the months by observing the Ahillah and Manaazil of the moon as directed in the Quran. As a rule the hilaal appears in the evening of the day of conjunction, the new moon. The new month must begin on the following day. The fact that the Prophet and the Sahaba never attempted to see the Hilaal just as the people do today proves beyond doubt that beginning the month after seeing the Hilaal is not the Sunnah. Whenever they had doubt because of inability to observe they depended on information from other places. But today everyone wants to see his own Hilaal. They do not accept others, this is not Sunnah and what is not Sunnah will come under the Bid'a which leads to the Hell.

It is very easy to find out the new moon day. It is the day on which the moon and the sun are in the same Manaazil in the sky. It is the last day of the month. The moon and sun rises at the same time and the moon that day must set after the sun because the moon lags about 50 minutes per day over the sun. So the Hilaal must appear on the evening of the new moon day. But it will not be seen to the naked eye. Sheikh Al Othaimeen R objects even the use glasses for seeing the moon because the Prophet and the Sahaba did not use them. How can the old people see the new moon which is very thin and faint? Therefore definitely this sort of seeing is not the criterion for defining the months. The Muslim astronomers are certainly mistaken.

I have seen with the naked eye all the phases of the moon for the three months before Ramadan, Jumadil Akhir, Rajab and Shaban.

Jumadil Akhir began on Wednesday and we saw the first waxing crescent of Jumadil Akhir on Wednesday evening the First of the month. The last waning crescent was seen on Wednesday evening the 29th of Jumadil Akhir. No trace of the waning crescent was seen on Thursday morning which was the 30th of Jumadil Akhir. The hilaal must have appeared that evening and the month ended in 30 days. Rajab began on Friday and we saw the first waxing crescent on Friday evening, the first of Rajab. We have seen the last waning crescent in the morning of Thursday the 28th of Rajab. There was no trace of the waning crescent in the morning of Friday the 29thy of Rajab. It was the last say of Rajab which ended in 29 days. Shaban began on Saturday and we saw the first waxing crescent on the evening of Saturday the first of Shaban. We saw the last waning crescent of Shaban on the morning of Friday the 28th of Shaban. There was no trace of the waning crescent in the morning of Saturday the 29th of Shaban. It was the last day of Shaban and the sun and moon were on the same Manaazil on Saturday. The Hilaal must appear by Saturday evening. Sunday must be the first of Ramadan. But the Muslims at Haramain have not received Ramadan in a befitting manner. They should repent and fast for the lost day of Ramadan after Eidul Fitre which falls on Tuesday. Since Rajab and Shaban had 29 days consecutively, which is a rare occurrence Ramadan must have 30 days according to the Manaazil predestined by Allah SWT.

May Allah SWT guide us to the truth!

Ramadan begins on Sunday

The moon was observed on 5th Wednesday, 6th Thursday and 7th Friday of Shaban in the evening. The angular distance measured  64:44, 76:16 and 87:02 degrees respectively. The angular distance is the age of the moon, which is the lunar date.

The readings given above proved beyond doubt that Shaban began on Saturday. The faster growth the crescent informs us that the month will have only 29 days. This Shaban according to the Manazil is a period of 29 days from Saturday to Saturday. this should not be violated.

Friday (14th of Shaban) the moon rose before the sun set and Saturday morning the moon had set a little beforethe sun rise indicating that the mid of the month is not yet over. Saturday evening the observers will notice that moon rises a little before the sun set. The moon will cross the line of opposition in the night and the sun will rise before moon set on Sunday morning. There is an eclipse on Saturday night which is the mid of Shaban.

we are sure that the dates of Shaban are in tune with the moon and that they are correct.

So Shaban ends on Saturday and Ramadan begins on Sunday. The first day of Ramadan is Sunday. Please donot forget to fast on Sunday.

Please convey this message to all Muslim brethren.

Dear Brothers,

Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

I have observed the moon this morning (Friday) before sun rise. The moon had set just before sun rise. This indicated that today (Friday) is the 15th of Rajab.

You may recall that this month Rajab began on Friday. The fast growth of the crescents during the fortnight indicated that this month has only 29 days. The last visible crescent (Urjoonul qadeem) will be seen on 28th Rajab Thursday morning. No trace of the waning crescent can be seen on the morning of Friday 29th Rajab, Friday on which a solar eclipse will occur marking the end of Rajab. The Hilaal appears in the evening. Shaban begins on Saturday.

Please note that Shaban 1429 has 29 days and Shaban will end on Saturday. The moon will be eclipsed in the middle of Shaban. The dates of the month could be checked with the Ahillah during the course of the month using the method which we have described earlier.

Ramadan the month of fasting begins on Sunday corresponding to 31-8-2008AD.

Reply to Salman (Shaban begins on Saturday)

    Dear Brother Salman,

    Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Allah Subhaanahu wa thaala informs us in His Book "Wa qaddarahu manaazila li thaalamoo adadassineena wal hissab" and the Prophet SAW said "Innaa ummathun ummiyyathun laa nakthubu walaa nahsibu asshahru hakazaa wahaakazaa. "Soomoo li ruuyathihi wa afthiroo li ruuyathihi...", But you are not ready to do both and you are bevildered.

This morning (Wednesday) I have witnessed the waning crescent from Riyadh. It is certain that it can be seen Thursday morning also. But certainly it cannot be seen Friday morning. It is certain that Friday the sun and moon are in the same manaazil and the Hilaal must appear by evening. So Saturday cannot be included in Rajab. Saturday is the first day of Shabaan. You can see that my statement is confirmed by the solar eclipse which occurs on Friday the 29th of Rajab(1-8-2008).

The Hilaal appears by Friday evenimng and Saban begins on Saturday.

    17-4-1429/23-4-2008

    "On May 5, 2008 Monday" (Pakistan 28 Rabee-uth-thani, Saudi Arabia, according to visibility [???], according to Ummul-Qura 29 Rabee-uth-thani)

Giving different dates to Pakistan and Arabia is absurd. Islamic Shariah does not entertain wrong ideas. (and He has not placed there in any crookedness 18:1) The Ulema disagree with the silly idea of the Muslim astronomers to give different dates to different towns.

As per the Manaazil of the moon on which the dates must be based according to Quran and Sunnah, Rabiul Akhir began on Monday after completing 30 days of Rabiul Awwal on Sunday. In Shariah the Hilaal is not necessary on the 30th. The Hilaal had not appeared by 29th of Rabiul awwal, Saturday and 30days were completed on Sunday. Therefore Rabiul Akhir began rightly on Monday irrespective of the Hilaal. Visibility of the crescent is not the criterion. The Hilaal may or may not be visible. In shariah the months begin on the definite information that the month has set in.

The birth of the moon of Jumadal-oola 1429 according to GMT will be on Monday 5th May 2008 at 12:18 . At that time, the time in Pakistan will be 17:18 on Monday 5th May. And in Saudi Arab will be 15:18.

When conjunction is at 12:18 UT on Monday 5-5-2008 astronomically the crescent must appear on that evening on the western horizon. So Tuesday must be the first of Jumdal oola. Time difference at different places is not considered in the Shariah. Date is not a local affair. A date denotes a day of the week. When day is common date cannot be different. Day and date at all places in the world must be same. The Prophet SAW traveled in one night from Makkah to Damascus and returned the same night. He knows the date at Makkah, Damascus and at all places is same. How could Ibn Abbas, the Sahaba and the Imams ignore this? Time depending on the sun's angle is different everywhere while date depending on the Manaazil of the moon is same all over the world. Local time has nothing to do with the date. Islamic Shariah does not allow different dates for Arabia, Pakistan, India or any other place in the world.

Because the age of this moon and the other factors effecting on the visibility of the moon e.g. Lag, Rel.Azi. and elongation etc will be extremely defective on May 5 in all over the world, thus according to the research of the astronomy department of Jamia-tur-Rasheed, in the light of approximately 18 old and new Criteria of the visibility of the moon including Al Beruni, Yaqoob Bin Tariq, Babylonians and Ancient Indian astronomers, there is no possibility of the moon being sighted with the naked eye in all over the world, specially in Pakistan, India, Iran, Afghanistan Saudi Arabia except North America. There are different ideas of different astronomers about the visibility chances of the moon in North America, e.g. According to many Criteria the moon can be sighted very easily in Alaska with naked eye while in the northern and central America according to some criteria moon will be invisible while according to other ones it can be sighted under the perfect conditions, either with the naked eye or with the optical aid. Only and only founder of moon sighting.com Mr. Khalid Shaukat and the founder of ''ICOP" Odeh, Jordan have shown the possibility of moon sighting in U.K and in its neighbor countries with telescope while Bernard yallop has not shown such possibility in U.K etc.

Visibility of the crescent is not the deciding factor of the months. The moon which rises before the sun in the last days of Rabiul Akhir overtakes the sun and begins to set after the sun before the end of Monday in the world. The moon was approaching the sun before Monday and starts to go away from it after Monday. So the crescent must appear by Monday evening and the month must change. Jumadil oola must begin on Tuesday.

Muslims do not follow other cults. Islam is the religion and Islam teaches a calendar which is perfect and perpetual. The rules are found in Quran 2:189, 10:5, 36:39. How will the Ulema agree with a false astronomy which gives different dates to different towns?

The defectiveness of the conditions of the moon on May 5 can be imagined by this that on May 5, age of the moon will hardly be "two hours" in the most western part of Pakistan and will hardly be 3.5 hours in the most western part of Saudi Arabia e.g. Makkah Mukarramah.

Setting of the moon after the sun even by one minute is enough to begin the new month on the following day as per the Fatwa of the leading Ulema. The Sahaba did not go by sun set and moon set calculation which is a pure Bid'a. There is no need to see the Hilaal when we are sure of its presence in the western horizon of the world. How can Islamic Shariah allow different dates to Pakistan and Arabia? Please produce evidence for it from the Quran and Sunnah.

    "On May 6, 2008 Tuesday" (Pakistan 29 Rabee-uth-thani, Saudi Arabia, according to visibility [???], according to Ummul-Qura 1st Jumadal-oola)

Imams have not considered the difference of Matalia in case of the month. Islaimc Shariah does not permit multiple dates for a single day. When the moon has started to set after the sun on Monday, Tuesday must be the first of Jumadal oola.

The conditions of the moon will be so excellent on this day in the whole world that according to the all old and new criteria of the visibility of the moon, the crescent will be clearly visible in all over the world except Southern Australia, New Zealand and in the extreme southern areas of Argentina and Chile, Where a clear possibility of sighting the moon will be on Wednesday May 7.

Who has made old and new criteria like the Old Testament and new testaments? Quran gives the rules for the calendar and Quran has never changed and will never change. Please return to Quran.

Data of moon in Karachi on May 6, 2008 Tuesday.

According to the software "moon calculate 6" of Doctor

Manzoor Ahmad UK, the Data of the moon in Karachi at

Sun set i.e. 19:04 on May 6, 2008 Tuesday, are as under below:

    Altitude= 14.2

    Rel.Azi. = 2.4

    Elongation=15.1

    Age of Moon= 25 hrs 46 minutes.

Lag= one hr 16 minutes (If the lag is one hour and a quarter it is certainly the first day of the month. It is not the last day of the previous month.)

    Important

In the light of the facts given above it is extremely clear that 1st Jumadal-oola 1429 should fall on May 7, 2008 Wednesday in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia but because the age of the moon and other factors effecting its visibility are extremely defective in both the countries in the evening of Monday May 5, for example the age of the moon on the evening of May 5 in Pakistan will hardly be two hours old and 3.5 hours old in Saudi Arabia, so if a person in any of the countries claims to have seen the moon on the evening of Monday May 5, and if the claim is accepted without the verification and investigation of Ulama and astronomers then that will be an extremely surprising and incomprehensible decision.
    Muhammad Sultan Alam

Verification and investigation with the sun set and moon set difference is not Islamic way. The Prophet said: "Fa'in shahida shaahidaani fasoomoo wafthiroo".

Astronomers must follow the astronomical rules in defining the synodic lunar months. Because the astronomers do not follow the astronomical rules, the Ulema are confused and they reject all calculations.

Original Ummul Qura calendar and the New Ummul Qura calendar

TELEGRAM DATED 11-3-2008 HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH KHADIMUL HARAMAIN MAKKAH ALMUKARRAMAH PLEASE CONVENE CONFERENCE ON HIJRA CALENDAR URGENTLY TO SOLVE PROBLEM IN LUNAR DATES. PRESENT UMMUL QURA CALENDAR BEGINS MANY MONTHS INCLUDING RAMADAN, SHAWWAL AND ZULHIJJAH ON WRONG DAYS. THIS WILL CONFUSE MUSLIM UMMAH ALL OVER THE WORLD. KINDLY VISIT WWW.HIJRACALENDAR.COM FOR DETAILS

ALI MANIKFAN manikfan@gmail>com Tel:09842947854, 04637294556

Dear Brothers in Islam,

Assalmu alaikum WR WB,

I am giving below the dates of the Original Ummul Qura calendar and the New Ummul Qura calendar for your kind perusal.

You will notice that the beginning of some months differ in both the calendars and the number of days in the months are not alike. The months of 29 become months of 30. This is not allowed in the Shariah. So it is very important that the rule adopted for computing the calendar should be according to Quran and Sunnah. If not the Halaal and Haraam of Allah Subhanahu wa taala will be violated and all our hard earned Aamal will be nullified.

Allah Subhanahu wa taala has fixed the months of 29 and 30 on the very Day He created the heavens and the earth. So we must draw the calendars following the directions of the Quran in this matter. Quran clearly says that the Ahillah or the Manaazil of the moon are the dates for the people and Hajj. 2:189

For getting the dates of the months tally with the phases and the Manaazil of the moon we must use the new moon day as the last date of the month. The Original Ummul Qura calendar is computed on this basis and it is correct. The New Ummul Qura calendar which is made basing on the sun set and moon set difference of Makkah is wrong. It considers the Matla? and this is not warranted in the Shariah. All calendars made using other laws will give wrong dates which have no connection with the phases of the moon. Therefore such methods should be avoided.

This matter has to be discussed involving the leading Ulema and the astronomers and a final decision should be taken immediately so as to avoid unnecessary confusion in the days of the Muslim festivals and the Arafa Day of 1429H

Total number of days               354             Total number of days              354

We can see that even though the number of days in the year 1429H is 354 in both the calendars the number of days in the months is not same. The original ummul Qura calendar which is computed scientifically based on the Manaazil of the moon is correct while the present ummul qura calendar which is based on the sighting of the Hilaal in Makkah is not correct. We can see that four months Muharram, Safar, Rabiul Awwal and Rabiul Akhir have 29 days which never happens in the true calendar based on the Manaazil of the moon. The months of 29 cannot repeat more than 2 consecutively. It is high time that we accepted Quraan and science in computing the calendar.

    Zul hijja begins on Monday

    Dear Brothers,

    Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Moon was observed Monday morning 24-11-1428=3-12-2007. It is 72 degrees away from the sun. Yesterday morning before the sun rose, the moon was almost half and today the appearance is like a big crescent. This is the first crescent on the waning phase. This foretells us that the next Monday will be the first of Zul Hijjah. Tuesday morning it would have reduced and you will know that it is not the first crescent on the waning phase but it is the second which means that next Tuesday will be the second of Zul Hiujjah. The moon is now approaching the sun at the rate of about 11 degrees per day.

Let us calculate and see. Tomorrow Tuesday morning it will be 61 degrees away, Wednesday morning 50 degrees away, Thursday morning 39 degrees away, Friday morning 28 degrees away, Saturday morning 16 degrees away and Sunday morning 5 degrees away. Sunday morning the old crescent will not be visible anywhere in the world because it will be very close to the sun. Somewhere in the world both the sun and the moon must rise simultaneously. At that locality Sunday evening the moon will set about 24 minutes after the sun, which confirms that the Hilaal has appeared on the western horizon on Sunday evening and Monday must be the first of Zul Hijjah.

According to the Shariah since Zul Quaida began on Saturday, Saturday completes 29 days for Zul Qauida. The Hilaal will not be seen any where in the world and 30 will be completed on Sunday as per the Sunnah and Zul Hijjah begins on Monday irrespective of the Hilaal.

The conjunction takes place on Sunday 9-12-2007 at 17:40 hrs UT. So Zul Hijjah must begin on Monday 10-12-2007.

All calculations based on unscientific methods are wrong and misleading.

Arab News - Same Date for Two Days.  3rd Monday and 3rd Tuesday !!!

    Dear Brothers,

    Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

All of you have seen what the Arab news, a leading news paper of Saudi Arabia has done. They have changed the dates of Zul Quida after the third of the month Monday. They have given the same third for Tuesday also. This means that even after 14 hundred years we have not learnt what a date means.

The Quraan clearly says that the phases are the dates for the people and Hajj. We have counted 29 phases for Shaban, 29 phases for Ramadan, 28 phases for Shawwal. There will be 29 phases for Zul Quaida. We have seen the first phase on Saturday evening and according to the growth rate of the crescent we know that we can count 29 phases for Zulquaida. The Hilaal will not appear on Saturday the 29 th of Zul Quaida. So 30 days will be completed according to the Sunnah on Sunday and Zul hijja will begin on Monday irrespective of the Hilaal.

We have sent the following telegram to His Majesty King Abdullah so that a mistake in fixing the Day of Arafa 1428H may be avoided.

Please convey this message to all concerned.

Zul Quaida 1428 begins on Saturday

Dear Brothers and sisters in Islam, Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

Moon was observed on Saturday morning at sun rise. It appeared like a big crescent. It is the first crescent on the waning phase. So next Saturday will be the first of the next month, Zul Quaida. Sunday morning it will be thinner and we will know that it is the second, certainly not the first on the waning phase. This indicates that Sunday will be the second of Zul Quaida. The Quraan exhorts us "Litha'alamoo adadas sineena wal hisaaba" That you may learn the count of the ages ant the calculations. So we must learn how to read the natural dates shown by the moon phase. If we are unable to distinguish the second and third by seeing the Manaazil and Ahillah we will be counted among the cattle.

The moon was 76 degrees away from the sun at sunrise on Saturday. Sunday it will be 64 degrees, Monday 52 degrees, Tuesday 40 degrees, Wednesday 28 degrees, Thursday 16 degrees Friday 4 degrees away from the sun. Friday morning the sun and the moon will rise almost at the same time. In the evening the moon will set later than the sun confirming that the Hilaal has appeared on the western horizon. So Saturday must be the first of Zul Quaida.

Let us learn to tell the date from the signs of nature in the sky. Let us not depend on the middle men who misled us during Ramadan and Eidul fitre.

    Wassalam, Ali manikfan 23-10-1428/3-11-2007

Eidul Fitre of 1428H is on Friday the 12th of October 2007

Dear Brothers in Islam, Assalamu alaikum WR WB,

We are now in the last quarter of Ramadan. We have observed the full moon on the 15th of Ramadan (Wednesday). On 22nd Wednesday the moon was more than half. This informed us that Hilal will not apear on Wednesday, 29th of Ramadan. On Thursday morning the view was of that of half moon. On Friday 24th of Ramadan the view presented a perfect crescent on the waning phase heralding the first of Shawwal, the day of Eidul Fitre on next Friday. Now we can look for the last stages of the moon to confirm when the last crescent is visible.

Thursday morning the angular distance between the moon and sun was 83 degrees and Friday about 70 degrees. Saturday morning 58 degrees, about 12 derees above Venus. Sunday morning 46 degrees, almost level with Venus.

The Quran affirms: ?Asshamsu wal qamaru bihusban?. So tomorrow Monday the angular distance will be 34 degrees. Tuesday morning it will be 22 degrees. Wednesday morning it will be 12 degrees. Thursday morning it will be 00 degrees. Friday morning it cannot be 00 degrees! Hilaal must have risen by Thursday evening. If it did not happen, the Kalam of Allah SWT will have no meaning! May Allah protect!

If people like Dr. Muzzammil Siddiqui and Dr. Khalid shaukat want to keep silent and observe the fasting on Friday the Day of Eidul Fitre defying the orders of the Prophet SAW for fear of the people, we are certainly doomed. May Allah protect!

We must fear Allah SWT and understand the unmistakable Signs that He has arranged to show mankind their dates for performing the Ibadah. Fasting on the Day of Eidul Fitre is HARAAM in the Shariah and Eidul Fitre of 1428H is no other day than next Friday the 12th of October 2007.

I am giving below the copy of my telegram to His Majesty King Abdullah sent on last Friday for your information and urgent action.
