Korean thriller film “Hide and Seek″ has snatched the top spot of the Korean weekend?box office.

The film inspired by a real story?drew the moviegoers’ attention and jumped up 18 spots, snatching the top spot after pulling in more than 1.35 million moviegoers during the weekend of August 16 to 18, according to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.

Actress Soo Ae and actor Jang Hyuk’s new disaster film “THE FLU” nabbed the runner-up spot after selling over 970,000 tickets during the same time period.

Following number two, acclaimed Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s “Snowpiercer” stepped downed to the third place after attracting over 695,000 moviegoers.

Starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton and Song Kang-ho, the global film project has sold over 8 million tickets in 19 days of its opening on July 31, after drawing in over a million moviegoers on the following day of its release.

Next on the chart was actor Ha Jung-woo’s thriller film “THE TERROR LIVE,” which grasped the fourth spot after nabbing more than 479,000 moviegoers over the weekend.

Animated film “Epic,” voice-dubbed by K-pop idols KARA’s Seungyeon and 2AM Jinwoon, rounded up the top five after selling over 175,000 tickets in the same time frame.

Animated films were much in demand?around the end of summer vacation season for school students, bringing a new excitement for them and giving a little break for exhausted parents.

Other movies in the top ten slot were American animated film “Turbo,” Hollywood animation “The Smurfs 2,″ Japanese animated film “Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depth,” Russian adventure animation “Wings”?and acclaimed Japanese animation director Shinkai Makoto’s ”The Garden of Words.”
