Hosting royalty
A member of the Japanese royal family has spoken warmly of her time studying at Edinburgh.
Princess Mako, a granddaughter of Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, has been studying art history at the University since September.
The princess came to the University as an exchange student from the International Christian University in Tokyo.
As her stay in Edinburgh came to an end, she was shown around the University’s Playfair Library by Principal Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea, who gave her some insight into the history of Old College.
She also spoke to reporters from Japanese media, saying that her time at Edinburgh was “very fruitful”.
I had lots of opportunities to speak English and I think this experience will be useful.

Student exchange
The University has exchange programmes with partner institutions all over the world.
Its International Exchange Programme allows students to spend their third year at one of around 40 partner institutions in North or South America, Australasia, or Asia.
