What is Origin?
Origin is a way to access your games anywhere and a service that brings your friends, amazing deals, and your favorite games together.
  • Origin is here to serve you through three major avenues:
    • Your Origin Account is your golden-ticket to all things Origin. Use it to access EA websites and their services, like right here at help.ea.com and Answer HQ, log in to the Origin client, make purchases from the Origin Store, and show off who you are with your online profile
    • The Origin client is your leg to stand in for downloading and playing your favorite games on both Mac and PC.
    • Origin In Game is our proprietary in-game overlay that lets you chat with your friends, accept game invitations, and a slew of other social features seamlessly from within your game.

How do I register and login to Help.ea.com with my Origin Account?
To get the most out of the EA Help Center you just need to log in with your Origin Account.

Logging in will give you access to your past Help requests and help connect you to our game advisor if ever you need one.

To log in, click the? LOGIN ?button in the top right corner of the portal. If you don't have an account, you'll need to register first.

If you click? REGISTER , you will see the following two screens:

*Fill in all necessary fields and click? Continue? to finish registering.

Click LOGIN and enter your username or email for the account, then your password, and click? Log In .

 


If you have forgotten your password, you can get a password reset email sent to your address by simply clicking? Forgot Your Password .
Note, you will need to be able to provide your username or email address in order to correct your password.

Do I need to be online to play my games?
You don't need to be online to play your games, unless the specific game requires a connection for multiplayer components.

Can I download? Microsoft Xbox 360 ?or? Sony PlayStation 3 ?titles through?Origin?
You can purchase these titles directly through? origin.com ?and have them shipped to you, however you can only download PC and Mac versions of games through the Origin client and store.

How do I add or import my Friends into Origin?
Make sure both you and your friend have Origin Accounts and that you are also within the same game, for example: SimCity, Battlefield 3, etc .

There are two areas in the PC Origin client application where you can? Add a Friend? to the Origin Friends List.? Follow the steps below to import your friends into Origin.
  • Click on the ?Friends ?menu, then on “ Add a Friend… ”?from the drop-down menu.
  • Additionally, there is a button at the bottom right-corner of the Friends List window, accessible by clicking Friends and selecting Show Friends List .
    • Note , doing either of these will open the Import Friends Wizard .


The? Import Friends Wizard ?displays various options to import from (FB, XBL, PSN, etc).?
Select the best option for the friends you’re importing. For example, to import a friend from an EA game, click Connect next to EA under Import Friends.


After you select Connect , Origin will perform a search for any Origin users who are your friends within your chosen platform.? Your friends can be selected by clicking on the checkbox to the left of the avatar icon for that user.?
The ‘Select All/None’ checkbox in the upper-right corner will toggle selection of all users found in the search results.? The next step is to send a friend request to your friend.

From your friend's view, the following notification should show at the top of the Friends List within the Origin client.


Your friend can either ACCEPT or IGNORE your request; if accepted, you and your friends will be added to each other’s’ Origin Friends List.

How do I enable Origin In Game for all games in Origin?
By default, the Origin In Game overlay-feature is available in any EA game played through Origin. This feature allows players to be able to look for any friends who are currently online, chat with anyone on your friends list, browse the internet, and contact EA support for assistance without having to close your current game session. Depending on your current configuration, this feature may not appear in all games played through Origin by default.

To enable Origin In Game for all games available and played through Origin, follow the steps below:
  • Open Origin and? log into your EA/Origin account ?(if you have not already)
  • Click on the? Origin menu .
  • In the drop down menu that appears, click on? Application Settings ?as shown below

  • In the ?Application Settings ?window that appears, click on the? In Game ?tab at the top to display the available Origin In Game options
  • In that tab, make sure the check box next to ?Enable Origin In Game ?is checked and then select? All Games ?as shown below

  • Once you have selected the All Games bullet, click ?Done . This will save the configuration change.
After completing the steps above, you should be able to access Origin In Game in any game you play through Origin.

How do I get help within Origin In Game?
If you're in the middle of a game and need some immediate help,? hold SHIFT and press F1 ?to access Origin In Game.
  • In the Origin Client, click? Origin ?in the menu bar, and select? Application Settings
  • Select the? Origin?In Game ?tab
  • Change the In Game?setting to? All Games .
    • Origin will now send a message when a game is launching?about opening Origin In Game?with SHIFT+F1.
  • Origin In Game can be initiated whether or not a game is paused.
  • Once Origin In Game?is started, click the? ?? button in the bottom right to open help.ea.com.

What are the Origin client's Minimum Requirements?
The minimum requirements for?the Origin?client are listed under the product that you wish to purchase.?To find the minimum requirements for the specific title you're looking for, please follow these steps:
  • Click on the title you're interested on the? Origin website .
  • You will be brought to the title information page.? Below the title there will be a tab labeled? System Req. ? This is the system requirements for this specific title.? You? must? meet these requirements in order to play the game.
    • Note: ?The minimum requirements may vary from title to title.?Please check to make sure you meet these requirements before downloading.
  • Recommended System Requirements
  • Windows XP OS, Win64 OS or later with admin rights
  • Internet Explorer ?6 or later with Javascript enabled
  • Broadband connection (cable, DSL, or faster)
  • Required free hard drive space depends on game download size (check product info page for details)
    • Note: ?Not all games may be compatible with Windows XP.?

Tracking Achievements and Points in Origin

One of the new features added in Origin Client is the ability to track your achievements across a limited number of EA games.

During this initial stage, PC gamers playing? Battlefield 3 ,? Mass Effect 3 , and? Dead Space 3? will be able to view the in-game achievements they’ve completed in these games on their Origin profile page and will begin to earn Origin Points (OP) for completing certain pre-existing in-game achievements.

Currently only gamers participating in? Origin beta opt-ins ?will receive the necessary beta update involving these points. When the new version of the Origin client is officially released, all PC gamers playing? Battlefield 3 ,? Mass Effect 3 , and? Dead Space 3 ?will be able to view their achievements and accrue Origin Points for completing certain existing in-game achievements.

How do I see the achievements and Origin Points that I’ve earned?
PC gamers who installed? Battlefield 3 ,? Mass Effect 3 , and? Dead Space 3 ?via Origin can view their Origin Point total and the in-game achievements they’ve earned by clicking on the Achievements icon in Origin In Game (Shift+F1 while in the game), by viewing their “mini profile” (where your username and avatar are displayed), by viewing the achievements module on the game detail page, or by viewing your profile. (Please note: currently only gamers playing? Battlefield 3 ,? Mass effect 3 , and? Dead Space 3 ?will see Origin Points or be able to view the achievements module).

I earned an achievement, but it didn’t get unlocked. How do I get credit for it?
First make sure that you are connected to the internet?you need to be online to receive credit for an achievement and earn Origin Points?and that you have completed all of the necessary requirements to complete that achievement. If some time has passed without the achievement unlocking and you are sure that your internet connection is working correctly, please contact? help.origin.com .

Origin Free Trials


What are Origin Free Trials?
Origin has introduced an exciting feature that allows you to play select EA titles for a limited amount of time in Origin Free Trials .A Free Trial is just what it sounds like ? your chance to play as much of the full game as you can during the trial window. ?

How are free trials different from demos?
Unlike demos, where you can only access a portion of the game, Origin Free Trials allow you to play the full game. If you decide you want to purchase the game after the free trial is over, you won’t even need to re-download the game?you can just keep playing. If you have Origin Cloud Storage enabled, you’ll be able to continue playing after purchase from any PC.

How long does my free trial last?
The trial timer will start as soon as you start playing. The duration of a free trial will vary from title to title. Please note that the timer will continue to count down your remaining time even when the game is paused or you’ve left Origin entirely. It runs non-stop until time expires.

I thought I saw a discount on the full game. Where do I find that again?
You may encounter a promotion pop-up when you quit the free trial offering you a chance to buy the full game at a discount.

In most cases, this popup will be the only place this discount is offered?and only for a limited time. If you are interested in the discount, it is recommended that you snatch it when you encounter it, because you may not see it again.

Twitch Broadcasting in Origin

How can I broadcast with Twitch in Origin?
Origin makes broadcasting your gameplay easy, so you can show off your slick multiplayer tactics or your most thrilling speedrun to other gamers around the world. To show your gameplay to the world:
  • Start playing your game.
  • Bring up Origin In Game by hitting Shift+F1 (or whatever keystroke you’ve mapped it to).
  • Select the Broadcast button? .
  • Sign in with your Twitch account or create a new one.
After you sign in, you can adjust your volume levels, broadcast resolution, framerate, or picture quality in Advanced Settings. For veteran broadcasters, you may notice that your broadcast settings options have moved from Application Settings to Origin In Game.

When you start streaming, a bar will appear at the top of the Origin In Game screen to let you know that you're live and streaming. It also shows how many viewers are currently watching. If you prefer not knowing just how many eyes are on your gameplay session, you can opt to hide the viewer count too in Advanced Settings.

Please note, ?Broadcasting is? not currently supported  on  Windows XP ?due to compatibility issues.

Can I broadcast Steam Games?
With Origin you can even broadcast your Steam games live, so you can show off your expeditions to the depths of space or most gruesome melee kills to other gamers around the world. It's a bit of work, but once you get everything setup this way, you can easily stream all of your games?Origin or otherwise?for everyone to see.

To broadcast your Steam Games, follow these steps to set the default settings:
  • Start Origin?and go to “ Add Game ”. Choose " Add Games Manually " and select your Steam directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe).? Click “ Open ” to add Steam.
  • Go to “ Application Settings ” and choose the In Game tab. Make sure you have selected “ Enable Origin In Game.
Once you’ve done that, every time you start your Steam game make sure you:
  • Quit Steam first (if you did not launch the game from Origin previously).
  • Launch Steam from Origin.
  • Launch your game from Steam.
  • You should now see the Origin In Game popup. Hit Shift+F1 (or your custom Origin In Game shortcut) and click on the Broadcast button? ?to start your broadcast.

Cloud Saving in Origin


What is Cloud Saving?
Cloud saving offers an alternative option to storing your save game data. Usually, when you save your game this information would be stored locally onto the PC that you are playing from. If you enable cloud saving through your Origin client, the next time you save your game; it will be stored externally on our secure EA servers.

What are the benefits of Cloud Saving?
By enabling Cloud Saving, you can access your saved games from any computer with Origin installed. This allows you to carry on playing from where you left off. Any progress you make while playing on a different computer can also be saved, meaning that you can continue your game whenever, wherever. Cloud saving is also a good way to protect your data, backing up saved game files which you have stored locally.

How can I enable Cloud Saving?
The Cloud Saving option can be enabled directly through your Origin client:
  1. Launch the Origin Client
  2. Log into your account
  3. Open the ‘Origin’ menu
  4. Click on ‘Application Settings’
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the ‘General Tab’
  6. Check the ‘Enable cloud storage for all supported games’
  7. Click ‘Done’ to finish
Once you have completed these steps, you have successfully set up cloud saves for any games which support it.

Is there a limit to the amount of data I can have stored in the cloud at any given time?
Currently, Origin is able to store 100MB of save game data per game.

How do I know if a game I purchased through Origin.com supports cloud saving?
In order to find out whether a game you own supports cloud saving please do the following:
  1. Launch the Origin client
  2. Log into your account
  3. Click on the ‘My Games’ section tab
  4. Mouse over the game you want to check
  5. Click on the ‘i’ symbol in the box that appears
Once these steps have been completed, the product page for the game you selected will be visible. If cloud storage is available you will see a ‘Cloud Storage’ tab next to the ‘Details’ tab at the top of the screen. If you can only see the ‘Details’ tab, then the game does not have Cloud Storage.
