Sam Smith: 'Not In That Way' (release date tbc)
Days before making the list for this year's BBC Sound Of 2014, the singer unveiled his latest offering 'Not In That Way'. The song is an emotional affair about unrequited love which, like most of what we've heard from him so far, is another reason why he deserves to top such a list.
Neon Jungle: 'Braveheart' (release date: early 2014)
The newly-formed girl group follow up the blistering
'Trouble'
with the equally in-yer-face 'Braveheart'. And with its ravey chorus, grinding bassline and bizarre rap about "stacking cheddar/ Chopping feta", we reckon this one packs an even weightier punch than its predecessor.
Solange: 'Cash In' (out now)
Last month, Solange released her first compilation
Saint Heron
through her own Saint Records label. Among the tracklist are her favourite up-and-coming R&B; stars as well as a brand new cut from the singer herself, called 'Cash In'. The song itself picks up neatly from her effortlessly cool 'True' EP, which can surely only mean good things for her new album come 2014.
Foxes: 'Let Go For Tonight' (release date: early 2014)
After releasing 2012
and
2013's most underrated anthem
'Youth'
, Foxes will hopefully get the chart recognition she deserves with her new track. It soars, it's euphoric and her vocals continue to hypnotise, so colour us very excited for her debut album in 2014.
Josh Record: 'Bones' (out now)
After supporting Lorde earlier this year and getting Radio 1 support for his previous single 'The War', Josh Record (yes, that is his real name) continues his knack for a rousing, guitar-led number - and with tracks like this, it's only a matter of time before he becomes a household name himself.
Ariana Grande: 'Love Is Everything' (out now)
The star puts out the first original track in her weekly festive releases; a bouncy R&B; jam complete with all the essential Christmas song requirements: a gospel choir, sleigh bells and a killer vocal.
Lizzo ft. Sophia Eris: 'Batches & Cookies' (out now)
After receiving a large amount of love from Nick Grimshaw, Lizzo's new track could become a surprise breakout hit in the UK. There's no denying that the US rapper can trill about dough-based treats rather impressively, but it's the infectious beat that keeps us going back for more and more.
Syron: 'Colour Me In' (TBC)
Fans of the British singer have been sitting patiently since March's very good single 'Here' for the follow-up, but with its breezy electronica and beautifully drifting vocals, 'Colour Me In' is totally worth the wait.
Aiden: 'Better Man' (out now)
The singer continues to prove why there was such an outrage when he was kicked off
The X Factor
in favour of Katie Waissel with his latest self-titled EP. 'Better Man' is a pulsing electronic serenade that hears Aiden try and win back his love.
Bo Saris: 'Little Bit More' (out now)
After years of success in his hometown in the Netherlands, Bo Saris is hoping to repeat the trick in the UK. He released his new EP 'The Addict' over here last week, and we're rather taken with the finger-snapping soul of 'Little Bit More', which doffs its cap to the legends without coming off as stale or old-fashioned.
