Introduction to Go

Go is a board game in which 2 players compete for territory. One player uses black stones, while the other uses white, each player take turns in placing stones on the intersection of a 19x19 grid to mark out their own respective territories. The player who has captured more territories at the end of the game is the winner.

Also known as Igo in Japan, Weiqi in China, and Baduk in Korea, its popularity continues to grow by over 40 million people in 80 countries all over the world.

Go has become very popular among kids in Japan because of Hikaru No Go , a popular Japanese manga and anime written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata . The anime was dubbed for Filipino viewers and aired on local channel.

The Philippine Go Association

Established on July 2006, the Philippine Go Association (PGA) is an amateur organization dedicated to promote Go in the Philippines. It is an active member of the International Go Federation (IGF) , and has participated in International Amateur Matches.
