Sarah Jessica Parker's husband, Matthew Broderick, famously fought a project championed by Bill de Blasio rival City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, NYU’s Greenwich Village expansion.
Mayoral hopeful
Bill de Blasio
is now two stars shy of a “Sex” sweep.
Months after “Sex and the City” star
Cynthia Nixon
signed on to a key role in de Blasio’s campaign, co-star Sarah Jessica Parker has agreed to headline a May 12 fund-raiser along with a raft of comedians, actors and a drag queen named Lady Bunny.
Bunny, who is known for glitzy outfits, false eyelashes and disco songs like “Shame, Shame, Shame!” and “The Pussycat Song,” has also made “Sex and the City” cameos.

She may be the first drag queen touted on a candidate’s supporters list, but de Blasio has prided himself on running an unconventional campaign.

Actress Cynthia Nixon, a prominent lesbian, has been part of Bill de Blasio's effort to challenge Christine Quinn, a lesbian, for gay support.
The city’s public advocate has made an unlikely play for gay and lesbian supporters despite running against City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s bid to become the city’s first lesbian mayor.
The “Sex”-themed May 12 event, targeted to gay and lesbian backers, is part of the push. Nixon is a prominent lesbian.

The actress, who played lawyer Miranda in the “Sex and the City” show and movies, told the Daily News that she helped recruit Parker ? who starred as Carrie Bradshaw ? to appear at the event.
“She’s a big fan of Bill’s, and he’s a big fan of hers,” Nixon said.

Nixon’s other two co-stars, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis, do not live in New York and did not respond to questions about whether they had a favorite in the mayoral race, but de Blasio said he’s thrilled to have the backing of two out of four.

“I’m so proud to have their support ? even though I’ve always thought of myself as more of a Charlotte,” de Blasio said, referring to Davis’ character. “But they aren’t just stars on the screen: They have worked passionately for public education and marriage equality, and they know we can’t afford four more years without addressing the enormous inequality facing our city.”
Parker’s foray into city politics comes after her husband, Matthew Broderick, took a visible role in the fight against NYU’s massive Greenwich Village expansion, which Quinn shepherded to Council approval. Nixon and the other supporters of the “LGBT for de Blasio” group are favoring him over Quinn.
“It would be a nice reset from Mayor Bloomberg,” Nixon said, citing de Blasio’s plan to tax the rich to pay for universal pre-K and surging homelessness.
In keeping with the star-studded theme, tickets to the event go for $25 for “hot,” $75 for “hotter,” and $175 for “hottest” seats.
Other mayoral candidates have their own celebrity supporters. Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner have donated to Quinn.
