The team behind the single largest fan-made
Android
conference invited us to a late night session to talk about the latest and greatest from CyanogenMod.
Google’s
developer conference may be the big place for Android news every year, but their fans have figured out how to gather around all throughout the world in celebration of their favorite little green robot. The
Big Android BBQ
is a huge fan and developer summit in Texas every year, and for the last few years the big keynote has been around the CyanogenMod team and their accomplishments.
In a Hangout announcing their appearance once again this year, we were invited to sit down and chat with Steve Kondik, Drew Suarez, and Koushik Dutta on the latest improvements to their little project.
The big changes that have come to CM in the last few months are just the start, according to the team. Their Focal camera and
CM Account systems
have been slowly added to all of their supported devices. Koush has also been working more on the secure messaging platform for CyanogenMod, and has been working with existing crypto experts to make their platform functional. Koush said to expect early builds on CM over the next few weeks.
Steve took a few minutes to talk about the future of CM. Kondik hinted at a few announcements coming from CyanogenMod over the next few weeks, and at least one of them promises to “make the Internet explode” after the launch. While he wasn’t willing to talk about specific things coming down the pipeline, he explained that the future of CM Accounts will likely include things such as backups and platform level features.
Steve took a moment to explain that what he wants out of CyanogenMod is to be able to offer an experience where you don’t lose anything to get the latest version of Android or to experience some new things on your device. Security and user control are important facets of the CM experience, and these new features will continue to focus in those areas. The sky is the limit, according to Kondik.
