A HAWTHORN home has space for all the family, vendor Rachel Walsh says.

Mrs Walsh and husband Neil have spent 12 years in the Hampton St home, raising their family. Mrs Walsh says she was struck by the space and the beauty of the circa-1920s home.

"It's a beautiful, lovely block," Mrs Walsh says.

"We were just starting our family and the rooms were really large and with lots of character - we just saw a huge amount of potential."

She says the home was in good condition and it has previously been renovated a couple of times.

"We wanted to modernise everything and open the rooms up. We engaged David Burton from Williams Burton Architecture to completely renovate the house," she says.

"He did a beautiful job to make it a beautiful family house."

The front door opens to a hallway with the four bedrooms in the original part of the house.

The master suite comprises a dressing room and ensuite which has been built out from the home.

Two of the bedrooms have original functioning fireplaces and there are other period features, including decorative cornices.

Further down the hall is the formal living room and formal dining room then a light and spacious open-plan kitchen, living and meals area.

"It's just a beautiful space here. It looks on to the garden and the swimming pool," Mrs Walsh says.

"We've got an open fireplace in this area and it really heats up this part of the house and it's a great feature."

There's also a cellar and a new office with windows overlooking the garden.

"It's just gorgeous to work there. You're surrounded by green," she says.

Outside is the swimming pool and lots of lawn area for entertaining or for children to play, Mrs Walsh says.

"One of the things I will say is it's a fabulous entertainer house. I've had dinner parties for up to 16 people in the dining room and we've held everything from cocktail parties for 80 people inside to a marquee in the backyard," she says.

The Walshes are planning to build a new house. Mrs Walsh says another family will love living on Hampton St.

"I think a family with children would make the most of this house and the pool," she says. "There's so much space, they would absolutely love it."
