Jennifer Livingston went from WKBT La Crosse morning anchor to social media star to morning show darling, all in the span of a week, after she blasted a man on the air after the man criticized Livingston for being obese in an email to the station.
“Surely you don’t consider yourself a suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular,” wrote the m ......

There were plenty of fun angles to choose from when profiling Eric Land, new general manager at Gannett’s duopoly in Jacksonville: his passion for piloting airplanes, the way a key mentor kept popping up in his life, and his career, his (very) early exposure to the world of local TV, and certainly his stint as COO of the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Tim Busch, co-COO at Nexstar, was Land’s GSM in ......

The Phoenix stations are hustling to cover the caught on video story of a police car chase that ended in the suspect shooting himself, which went viral in a matter of minutes after it aired live on Fox News Channel. The KSAZ website had it first, with a brief writeup and a fuzzy photo at 2:44 ET (11:44 local time), though it did not post the controversial video.
KSAZ is owned by Fox.

WOAY, an ABC affiliate in West Virginia, yanked an ad paid for by the Democratic Governors Association in support of candidate Bill Maloney, claiming it was misleading.
The Charleston Daily Mail reports that the spot suggests, among other things, that Maloney has ducked taxes by incorporating his drilling business in Delaware, and was not a native of the state.
“WOAY, the ABC-affiliate in s ......

WGBA Green Bay is showing a good sense of humor over the Packers getting robbed of a victory due in part to awful replacement officiating Monday night, as the station sent out a “replacement weather guy” to give the forecast yesterday.
The fill-in weather dude offered a pretty wacky forecast, with a high of around 346 degrees, and a low of -200. (Green Bay does not usually hit -200 ......

Viewers in Panama City, Florida get their own CBS affiliate as of today, instead of having a station imported from Dothan, Alabama. WECP represents the market’s first CBS affiliate since the ’60s, reports the local News Herald.

The kiddies of Chicago had the day off today, thanks to the teachers’ strike. But the news professionals were not so lucky.
Market leader WLS has a giant “Chicago Teachers Strike” graphic on its website, and is prepping for its live 4 p.m. streaming newscast in a bit. The site also features video from Mayor Rahn Emanuel talking on the topic.
The station, like hundreds o ......

Gannett is trying something unique starting Monday, as AZCentral.com — its joint site for KPNX Phoenix and the Arizona Republic — introduces a metered model. That means the first 20 “content pieces,” as Republic Media COO/KPNX GM John Misner puts it, are free each month. After that, the user must pay for either a digital or digital/print subscription.
Phoenix is Gannett ......

Sinclair and the music videos digi-channel TheCoolTV have parted ways, according to various reports on the web, along with the Subchannel Report newsletter.
That would be a huge blow for TheCoolTV.
Two CoolTV reps did not respond to my queries this morning.
In February 2010, Sinclair and CoolTV announced a deal for the channel to air in 34 Sinclair markets, representing 24 million homes. David Amy ......

The strangest news clip of the weekend probably goes to KARK Little Rock. An elderly couple was being interviewed about a downed tree on their property when a naked man walked out of the woods and into the shot.
Here’s the clip from ArkansasMatters.com.
Nathaniel Koba was jailed for indecent exposure and public intoxication.
KARK’s site reports:
The man didn’t appear to be in ......

WCBS New York got a taste of the benefits of duopolies Thursday night, as it moved CBS primetime over to its newish acquisition, WLNY, to make room for the Jets-Eagles pre-season game. Airing on WLNY, Big Brother retained 100% of its Thursday average this summer in adults 25-54, says CBS, and won the night in 25-54 (2.1 rating/5 share) and 18-49 (2/6).
The No. 2 show in New York Thursday night? Je ......
