My search for an answer to "Why poor people are more likely to get fat" takes me to the article below. ?It's about Oprah Winfrey, certainly not a "poor person" by any measure, but apparently she too has been battling the weight issue. ?But being a celebrity, she does it in full view of the public.

When you are stressed out in a dog-eat-dog society, this is what you can expect.
http://www.TheLivingGuru.com - Fight and Quarrel Over MRT between Older Auntie and Young "Ah Lian" Lady - Check out the FULL STORY HERE : http://www.thelivingguru.com/mrt-fight-over-seat-the-battle-of-older-auntie-vs-young-girl/ This is an edited video of the fight over a mrt seat, with no clear winner. It's news everywhere - "auntie berates young sexy chick over mrt seat" , "ah lian vs auntie fight over mrt seat" - The Living Guru has featured a shorter edited version of the video with Tips On How To Avoid Anger Getting On Top Of You. First Posted on STOMP, a 4 minute video of a young girl arguing with a middle-aged auntie over an MRT seat is going viral and it has all the makings of a truly "local production" -- spectacular Singlish, fashionably trendy Ah Lian, grumpy old auntie and of course, the sure-to-provoke "why you stare at me". Currently going viral, the video shows how what appears to be a minor disagreement blow up into a full-scale shouting match complete with Singlish and expletives -- all this in full view of amused commuters on a busy train. As of 21 Jun 2012, the original video has almost half a million views! It's not clear how the argument started but it appears to be over an MRT seat reserved for the elderly and handicapped. Apparently the young woman had already given up her seat, the older woman begins to lecture her over her bad manners, saying she "had to ask for the seat" and that the woman was "most probably coming from China." With the continued taunting by the older woman, the fight over the mrt seat escalated. The younger woman initially tries to ignore the scolding by playing with her phone but when the auntie decides to take a photo of her to "show to the public", the young woman finally shoots back a "death stare" and replies with "I let you sit, you still say so much for what?" As the auntie tries to take her photo again, she retorts with an outstretched finger, "You must take photo for f***!" to which the auntie replies "why you stare at me?!". The shouting match eventually ends when the young woman gets off at the next stop after Tanjong Pagar MRT, leaving the embarrassed auntie by her lonesome self. Now, who says MRT rides in Singapore are without (uniquely Singapore) drama? Now, all of us have definitely been angry at some point in our lives - what do we do when we are angry and how do we calm ourselves down when someone is yelling at us? Tips To Calm Yourself Down When Angry : 1. Breathe slowly and count from 1 to 20. 2. Lower your expectations. Often the higher the expectations of others, the higher the chances of getting uncontrollably angry. Lowering your expectations is a decision only you can make. 3. Try to see the humour in the situation. For example, think of the funny hairstyle, or the mole, or that think about a humourous situation that made you laugh very hard... This is BOUND TO WORK to help you calm down when you are really angry! 4. Close your eyes and shut yourself off for a minute. 5. 'Scare' yourself - ask yourself what happens if others are watching you - you don't want to be caught dead in the video that is going viral! What are the netizens saying about this fight over the mrt seat? Netizens have expressed shock and disapproval over the behaviour of a middle-aged 'aunty' who was caught on video arguing with a younger woman after the latter gave up an MRT seat for her. The middle-aged woman claimed to be suffering from a leg injury and accused the younger woman of staring at her. While the younger woman, who had given up her seat to the older woman, remained silent at first, she soon retorted and the two ended up arguing, pointing fingers and swearing at each other. A large number of comments on the Stomp posting criticised the middle-aged woman for being unreasonable. In addition, she berated the younger woman, saying "So displeasing. Most probably you're from China. Ask you for the seat, keep on staring for how many hours? So rude." Many support the younger lady, and some gave her the "Most Polite Ah Lian" award. You be the judge after watching the video Dear readers, we all get angry at some point in our lives. So learn how to calm ourselves down is important and helpful. Do you notice that in present times, most of the wealthiest and best educated people in any city are usually lean, while the poorest and least educated are often obese. ?Do poor people have more to eat than the rich?

For ten years I saw my weight steadily creeping up. Then between May 6 and today, June 16, I managed to reduced it to the weight I enjoyed in 2002. My blood pressure has improved. I'm not following a miracle diet. I'm not taking any weight-loss formula. I am simply returning to the way we are all supposed to eat.

This is perhaps the most important concept that few of us are ever taught. We go through life getting upset at other people and blaming them for ‘making us feel bad’. The truth is that no-one can make us feel anything unless we allow them to. We give people power over us when we allow them to have control over our own emotions. Teach your children not to give anyone this power over them, not their playmates, not their teachers. Teach them that they have a choice as to how they react every time something happens to them. They can choose to be upset (and pay the price of feeling miserable) or they can choose not to get upset (e.g. by ignoring a bully) and be pro-active about making sure the situation does not happen again.?
