BBC World Service Television was rebranded BBC World in 1995. BBC WSTV was considered too lengthy as a brand name, so it was dropped. It was also to conicide with the BBC splitting it's international channel into two - BBC World, News & Current Affairs and BBC Prime - a general entertainment channel. Both channels are not officially available in the United Kingdom as they are commercial, not funded by the licence fee, instead advertising and subscription.
