Texas Business reports:  A Plano-based cinema company plans to open a Dallas area theater this December with wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screens and self-service concessions.

Cinemark Holdings Inc, a motion picture exhibitor, announced the first Cinemark NextGen cinema.

The firm’s new new high-tech movie theatre design concept will open in Frisco in December, according to a prepared statement by Cinemark Company.

Every auditorium in the Cinemark Frisco Square complex will offer wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screens, Barco DLP projectors, Real D-3D versatility and custom JBL sound systems.

DLP projection now controls half the world’s market share in front projection since its inception on February 2, 2000, when Philippe Binant, technical manager of Digital Cinema Project at Gaumont in France, realized the first digital cinema projection in Europe with the DLP CINEMA technology developed by Texas Instruments.

Texas Instruments remains the primary manufacturer of DLP technology, which is used by many licensees who market products based on T.I.'s chipsets.  Over 30 manufacturers use the DLP chipset to power their projectors.

The Cinemark NextGen complex also will have Cinemark XD: Extreme Digital Cinema auditorium. The lobby will be designed around one of Cinemark's innovative self-serve concession stands.

“At Cinemark, our main focus is to create the best movie-going experience possible for our customers,” said chief executive Alan Stock.  “The new Cinemark NextGen theatres represent the next generation in cinema. We have designed an entertainment environment that offers technologically advanced amenities and a movie-watching experience that simply cannot be duplicated.”

Cinemark plans to launch a number of Cinemark NextGen theatres each year.   Cinemark is a domestic and international motion picture exhibitor, operating 425 theatres with 4,907 screens in 39 U.S. states, one Canadian province, Brazil, Mexico and 11 other Latin American countries as of June 30, 2010.
