The column is led by Bob’s exclusive — previously written about on this blog when the Tribune first published the item online item in the middle of the previous week — about rapper and actor Common placing a 1,248-square-foot condo unit he owns in the Museum Park development on Chicago’s South Side for $2,500 a month.

Also featured: a historic mansion in Glen Ellyn that was built for the village’s president is available for $1,799,000, and the estate of the late industrialist Brooks McCormick sells his vintage co-op unit at 1530 N. State Parkway on Chicago’s Gold Coast for $4,000,000. Proceeds from the sale of that co-op will benefit five charities.

What’s wrong with having a big house if you can afford it? Just because you live by yourself or with one other person instead of six doesn’t mean you should be in a smaller place; that doesn’t make any sense. People, by nature, need space.
