MILAN, 20 December 2010 - Antonio Cassano’s move to Milan is now a done deal. He will sign a contract tomorrow that will keep him at the club until 2014. The president of Sampdoria, Riccardo Garrone, has accepted Milan’s offer. The 5 million euro sell-on fee for Real Madrid will be divided equally between the two clubs and the player himself.
Lightning solution
—
The agreement between Cassano and Milan ends a situation that, after months of rumours, developed quickly on Thursday. That afternoon saw the decision of the Arbitration Board, which denied Sampdoria a contract cancellation, but halved Cassano’s wages and suspended him until 31 January. That evening Galliani, Braida and Bozzo, Cassano’s agent all met for dinner. A draft four-year contract was on the table, although the question of the payment to Real Madrid was still to be resolved.
Out since October
—
Cassano will be in Dubai on 27 December, where the Rossoneri will be spending a few days training before the championship resumes. The transfer will only be made official on 3 January when the New Year transfer window opens, but Sampdoria and Real Madrid have already authorised Cassano to train with his new team. He last played on 24 October in Sampdoria’s 1-1 draw against Inter. Having only played 7 Serie A games this year, scoring 4 goals and delivering 2 assists, his first aim will be to get back into the swing of things.
