Malaysia’s visitors can expect an invigorating atmosphere and a vibrant energy with the coming together of gastronomic signature dishes, history and culture, irresistible shopping sprees, outdoor activities and thrilling theme parks.

This truly Asian destination knows how to captivate its guests but why do they really love Malaysia?

Some of my DJ friends recently got to experience a taste of Malaysia first-hand – enter Sam Oh and Angel Rivero:

What do you remember most about Malaysia?

Angel: “My most memorable experience in Malaysia would be watching the 2009 Malaysian Moto GP at the Sepang International Circuit. Being part of a live audience at the Grand Prix was overwhelming!

It absolutely beats simply watching the race on television at home. Plus, as a member of Philippine media, I had the privilege to actually experience being in the pit stop area during the practice rounds. It was definitely unforgettable!”

Sam: “I thought the Batu Caves were absolutely breathtaking! I really enjoyed going up those steps and listening to our guide tell us about Lord Murugan and why it was dedicated to him. Also amusing (and frankly a little scary which added to the excitement) were the countless monkeys that were hanging out everywhere. Another thing I really enjoyed was the food. I was ecstatic that I could get delicious roti and curry for next to nothing pretty much everywhere.”

Any tips for first-time visitors?

Angel: “So far, I’ve only been to Malaysia once so I would suggest an itinerary exactly like mine – fly to

KL, explore the city, take a photo by the Petronas Twin Towers, watch the Malaysian MotoGP live in Sepang, then spend your last day shopping.”

Sam: “There seems to be a lot happening in Malaysia. When I was there, the international shoe festival was going on and it was interesting not only because I love shoes but it also featured these really quirky out-of-this-world creations by young designers. I would recommend that they check out what’s going on during the time of their visit.”

Fill in the blank: Do not leave Malaysia _______________.

Angel: “...if you still haven’t watched F1 or MotoGP live, and gone gaga over amazing finds only at the Big Malaysia Sale.”

Sam: “…without experiencing the theme park on steroids – Sunway Lagoon – and Beryl’s Chocolate Factory for some durian-filled chocolates!”

What makes Malaysia truly Asia?

Angel: “Malaysia is where different Asian cultures meet to comprise one amazing country. With all these sub-cultures present, visitors are sure to have the most extraordinary experience and as a bonus, authentic dishes are incredible!”

Sam: “I think Malaysia is a place where all Asian races are able to co-exist. As a result, you get to see and taste a little bit of everything that each culture has to offer. Top it off with trademark Asian hospitality. That's truly Asia.”

Heidi Klum lauds ‘One’ Filipino

Manila’s stylish crowd will be treated to a visual feast of fashion opulence as international Filipino designer Furne One holds his very first Philippine gala show entitled “First of One – A Fashion Collection by Furne One” on Oct. 9, 7 p.m., at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

One’s Manila debut is presented by noted fundraisers and fashion lovers, TV personality Tessa Prieto-Valdes, and philanthropist Kaye Tinga for the benefit of the Philippine National Red Cross-Rizal Chapter and the Assumption High School Batch 1981 Foundation.

One, 42, is a Cebuano designer who has become a top favorite among Dubai’s elite fashionistas for his extravagant yet elegant designs. The buzz he has created for over 10 years in the fashion runways of Dubai and abroad and through his first fashion label, Amato, has reached the fashion radar of international fashion watchers, particularly international model and TV host Heidi Klum, who is enamored by the drama and opulence of his breathtaking creations.

Klum chose One to work with her for three seasons of “Germany’s Next Top Model.” In their first collaboration in 2008, he was the featured designer for the finale show, with the finalists working the runway donned in his Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired masterpieces. After that, Klum invited him to be a guest judge. He eventually became a featured designer in the most recent season of the top reality show.

One became a household name in Germany, dressing famous actresses like Mariella Graefin von Faber-Castell. This was followed by invitations to showcase his designs in the prestigious Los Angeles Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week, and recently in London Fashion Week.

Be there as One enthralls Filipino fashionistas with his over-the-top yet elegant creations from his latest collection, “War and Roses.”

For the chance to see up close Furne One’s latest collection, he will hold a special fashion show on Oct. 10, 2010, 10:30 a.m., also at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel for the benefit of ABS-CBN Foundation’s Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig.
