Watch More Videos of Neutral Milk Hotel Performing Live in 1998

The whole band joins in this time Watch More Videos of Neutral Milk Hotel Performing Live in 1998

A couple of weeks ago, we posted a pair of low-tech but nonetheless astounding videos of Neutral Milk Hotel playing live at New York's Knitting Factory in 1998. Those videos, solo performances from frontman Jeff Mangum at his most possessed, left us wanting more. Now we've got more. The magic of the Internet!

Kid Cudi Raps Over Vampire Weekend

Kid Cudi Raps Over Vampire Weekend

He's already collaborated with MGMT and Ratatat and big-upped Band of Horses , so it's no surprise to find even more evidence that Cleveland upstart rapper Kid Cudi is an indie rock head, on his new track " Cudderisback ".

There's still a pleasant frisson to hearing Cudi rapping over the skeletal intro to "Ottoman", Vampire Weekend 's baroque power pop jam from the Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist soundtrack , if only because we never expected to hear anyone tell haters to suck their balls on a Vampire Weekend song. (Not that Ezra Koenig wouldn't appreciate the sentiment .)

Head over to Hypebeast to cop the download. Thanks to Jordan Landry Graves and Dennis McNamara for the tip.

J Mascis Forms New Band, Sweet Apple

Hear their first song, "Do You Remember" J Mascis Forms New Band, Sweet Apple

The axe-wrecking guitar work of frontman J Mascis has always been one of Dinosaur Jr. 's prime selling points, but Mascis started out as the drummer in the Massachusetts hardcore band Deep Wound. More recently, he's hit the skins for the stoner -rock group Witch in a vaguely perverse use of his side-project time. And in Sweet Apple , his newest band, Mascis is once again behind the drums. Lucky for us, though, he also plays guitar and sings in the band.

Sweet Apple also features two members of Cleveland glam-garage bashers Cobra Verde , as well as Dave Sweetapple (hey, nice name!) , Mascis' bass-playing bandmate in Witch. According to a press release , Sweet Apple started when Cobra Verde frontman John Petkovic drove cross-country after his mother's death and found himself in Mascis ' New England neighborhood. Says Masics , "I tell people that I saved John's life by starting this band, but they don't believe me."

Listen: Symphonic Solo Song From Sigur Ros Frontman Jonsi

Solo album, titled Go, coming soon Listen: Symphonic Solo Song From Sigur Rós Frontman Jónsi

Back in May , we reported that the voice of Sigur Ros , Jonsi Birgisson , was working on a solo album with composer Nico Muhly (Grizzly Bear, Antony and the Johnsons). Producer Peter Katis (Interpol, Frightened Rabbit) let the news slip on the Calcutta blog , saying, "It's going to be a largely acoustic guitar record but also with a lot of 'out there' string arrangements...strings, woodwinds, brass, and double bass, actually."

Well, the first song from the record, "Boy Lilikoi", is now available to download at Jonsi's brand new website , for the price of an email address. It's got all of those instruments and then some-- it's the most orchestrated thing the singer's been involved with, which is actually saying something. It is also in English. (A lilikoi is a passion fruit that looks quite delicious , btw.)

You can listen to a few more snippets of new material from the forthcoming album, which is called Go , on Jonsi's website.

Hear Norah Jones Remixes From Beastie Boys, Beck, Santigold

Hear Norah Jones Remixes From Beastie Boys, Beck, Santigold

Back in October, we reported that Norah Jones had recruited some unlikely all-stars to remix tracks from her new album The Fall . The Beastie Boys , Beck , and Santigold aren't exactly the first people you'd expect a bazillion-selling smooth-jazz chanteuse to work with, but there it is. The lady has pull! And this week, the Jones remixes are slowly being rolled out on different websites.

Animal Collective's Highly Anticipated Film to Premiere at Sundance 2010

It's called ODDSAC. Yep. Animal Collective's Highly Anticipated Film to Premiere at Sundance 2010

The years-in-the-making Animal Collective movie, directed by frequent collaborator Danny Perez , will finally debut at next year's Sundance Film Festival , which runs from January 21-31 in Utah. It's called ODDSAC .

Talking about the name of the film to us earlier this year , AC's Avey Tare said, "There's a few titles we're all psyched on, but it's a matter of finding out what sits right, what looks right in terms of putting it in the credits." So ODDSAC looks right in the credits, apparently.

Describing the movie, Tare continued: "The whole thing cohesively doesn't have one narrative; it's more of a visual or psychedelic thing. There are parts that are almost completely abstract, and there are parts that are little bit more live-action." So yeah, it's an Animal Collective movie, not Gone With the Wind .

Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold Talks Next Album, Side Projects, Creative Struggle

"The last year has been a really trying creative process where I've not been knowing what to write or how to write." Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold Talks Next Album, Side Projects, Creative Struggle

On the strength of one EP and one self-titled album , Seattle backwoods harmonizers Fleet Foxes have ascended to indie stardom. They've played festival stages and appeared on "Saturday Night Live". They also won Album of the Year honors from Pitchfork and toured their hearts out. So how do you follow up a debut run like that? To hear frontman Robin Pecknold tell it, you question whether music is really what you want to do, you work on some side projects, and then you hunker down to start work on the follow-up album.

Fleet Foxes are now in the early stages of album number two, and Pecknold is also keeping his creative energies up by forming a band with his sister and working on pretend film scores with Morgan Henderson of Past Lives (and formerly of Blood Brothers). He recently chatted with Pitchfork about Paul Thomas Anderson, Neil Young, and his decision to keep making music.
