UPDATE: Billy Corgan has
Tweeted
, "
Unless God signed the papers for me, I don't remember settling any lawsuits. But God bless whoever thinks I have."
Last year, the
Smashing Pumpkins
sued
Virgin Records
, twice. First, they sued their old label
for using the Pumpkins' music in an unauthorized Pepsi promotion
, thus hurting their "artistic integrity" and "considerable amount of goodwill in the eyes of the public." (After all,
Billy
Corgan
cares a whole lot about
public goodwill
.) Then, former members James
Iha
and
D'arcy
Wretzky
-Brown
sued Virgin and Corgan, claiming that they were cheated out of digital royalties
.
Yesterday,
the Associated Press reported
that
Iha
and
Wretzky
-Brown have settled their lawsuit and that
Corgan's
suit is also settling, according to Josh
Glotzer
,
Iha
and
Wretzky
-Brown's attorney. The terms of the settlements are confidential.
In other Billy Corgan
news, he's busy working on a couple of books. On his
spiritual website
,
Everything From Here to There
, (via
TwentyFourBit
),
Corgan
writes, "I am happy to report that I am now lined up to write a new book, and am in the process of finalizing the details of where-when. I share this because, in addition to that book, I am also set to contribute to a novelette with my beautiful friend Claire
Fercak
, and, in order to find the time to write, I am looking for fresh, creative ways to stay present with
EFHTT
.com, whilst stealing back the hour or so a day of creative energy that it takes to contribute here."
The aforementioned
Fercak
,
it turns out
, is a French author and Pumpkins
superfan
who previously wrote a novel called
The Smashing Pumpkins /
Tarantuala
Box Set
, about a girl who locks herself inside the Pumpkins'
The Aeroplane Flies High
box set. Yes, seriously.
Corgan's
announcement is part of a
typically rambling blog post
that also discusses, among other things, his history with mercury and lead poisoning and his feelings about "warrior spirits." He also
hates the commercialization of Christmas
.
Corgan's
probably written? ten books' worth of blog posts; why not just collect those into an anthology?
