British talent dominates IFPI European awards

A total of five artists are honoured with Platinum Europe Awards for September, with British acts leading the field.

American singer-songwriter Pink picks up the only award for a non-UK artist this month, for her album I'm Not Dead . The Grammy award-winning star has now sold over one million copies of her latest title across 22 European countries. I'm Not Dead is her fifth studio album and was released in March this year. Stupid Girls , the first hit single to be taken from the album, also won Best Pop Video at August's MTV Video Music Awards.

Snow Patrol's fourth album Eyes Open picks up its first Platinum Europe Award for surpassing one million European sales. The band's mainstream success was driven by breakthrough single Run from 2003 album Final Straw . The group toured extensively - including an opening slot in U2's Vertigo tour - before releasing Eyes Open in April 2006. The band, originally from Northern Ireland, have enjoyed recent chart success with singles from this album, Chasing Cars and You're All I Have .

New British sensations The Kooks achieve their first Platinum Europe Award for sales of over one million copies of their debut Inside In/Inside Out . The young indie four-piece formed while studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. The album was released in January this year and reached No.1 in the UK, where it has gone three times platinum. The group, who once described themselves as a "groove rock 'n' roll band", are currently on a UK tour.

KT Tunstall's 2004 debut offering Eye To The Telescope scoops a second Platinum Europe Award for the Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter. Album sales have now surpassed the two million mark in Europe. Last year Tunstall was drafted in at short notice to perform on UK TV show 'Later With Jools Holland', which brought her folk inspired pop sound to a wider audience. Eye To The Telescope was nominated for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize, and Tunstall won the Best British Female Solo award at the 2006 Brits.

Industry veteran Rod Stewart sees his hits compilation The Story So Far gain a second Platinum Europe Award for sales of over two million copies across the continent since its November 2001 release. The Story So Far features Stewart's cult single Maggie May, which scored a chart first in 1971 when the single and its respective album topped the single and album charts in both the UK and USA simultaneously. The legendary English rocker has released over 20 solo studio albums, with his latest title due out this month.
