Voice actors surf PSP Star Oceans

Japanese cast of handheld remakes appear at Square Enix Party, leak some additional tidbits of information; no new Star Ocean 4 details.

MAKUHARI--Two days ago, Square Enix announced it is resurrecting the first two installments of its Star Ocean series on the PSP with new characters and voice acting. Today at the Square Enix Party 2007 , the publisher revealed the voice cast for the two new games, Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. The roster of actors that will be playing the main roles in the two titles is listed below.

Star Ocean: First Departure
Ratix Farrence - Mamoru Miyano
Milly Kiliet - Hitomi Nabatame
Marvel Frozen - Houko Kuwashima
Fear Mell - Megumi Toyoguchi

Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Claude C. Kenni - Daisuke Namikawa
Rena Lanford - Nana Mizuki
Dias Flac - Tomokazu Sugita
Precis F. Neumann - Rie Kugimiya

Early in the morning, Square Enix held a stage show featuring the voice actors together, which attracted an attendance of well over 600 people. As happens during many live events, the voice actors leaked some extra tidbits of information that weren't disclosed at the press conference two days ago.

While Square Enix previously confirmed that the games will feature voices, they didn't clarify how much dialogue the games would contain. The actors confirmed that the games will feature extensive vocal work, including conversations in the "private action" system. Rena Lanford voice actress Nana Mizuki commented that she received a box full of scripts at her office, all of which were for Second Evolution.

The developers are taking their time in making the PSP Star Oceans more than just simple remakes. In a statement, series producer Yoshinori Yamagishi said that he wants the remakes to feel as though they're completely new games. Apparently, he's not just saying that. The voice actors revealed that, despite the games' lengthy scripts, they still haven't started recording yet. As it turns out, the scripts aren't yet finished, due to the addition of extensive new scenarios and characters.

Square Enix didn't disclose any new details on Star Ocean 4, which was also announced this week during its stage show at the Party. "We are currently hard at work in making Star Ocean 4 (working title), so that it will be worthy of being considered the latest installment in the series," was all Yamagishi's statement said.

SO4 Is comming out for the ps3 and 360 most likely. It is very very very unlikely it will only be comming out for the ps3 because not many people have one.

A remake of SO 2 sounds nice. Great Playstation game that I shouldn't have sold after finishing it.

I thought SO:TTEOT pretty much closed any possiblity of there being a 4th game, considering the BULL**** climax where you find out everything is all just one big game or some crap like that.

If they make an SO4, they better fix the freaking story cause that "twist" pissed me off to the point of no longer playing.

Wow, really big-name voice actresses for the second Star Ocean... I was going to pick it up anyway, but now I'm even more excited. Mizuki Nana is extremely talented, and I'm hoping that her addition means some kind of theme song where she sings the vocals, but Kugimiya Rie I'm not too sure about, although the character of Precis is exactly what she's typecast to voice, so... more power to Square Enix for that, I suppose.

The voice actors are just a gimmick. I could care less if they're known voice actors or not, just as long as they do a good job selling it.

I hope the two remakes see stateside release. Star Ocean Second Story was quite a good game, while the first Star Ocean, from the little I've played of the Super Famicom version, looked pretty good too.

Star Ocean: The Second Story was great. My second favorite PS game, FF VII being No. 1. Also glad to hear about a fourth installment, although I thought the last one kind of fell flat on it's face I still want the series to continue.

Going through all the latest news and wondering why there are sooooo many typos. Seriously it is getting really bad. Are they just trying to pump out the latest stories and editing them later? I hope so.
Read the caption for this story... "Japanese cast of handheld remakes remake appear at Square Enix Party" Seriously... "remakes remake"

If they are remaking the first 2, then shouldn't the second game be called "Star Ocean: The Second Story"? I honestly hope they don't make a completely different story and toss aside the original.

This is great. SO and SO2 are amazing games =) I didn't like SO3 very much, but these remakes seem to keep true to the original games.

I can't recall that SO2 had problems with crashes, maybe a few times, but nothing serious or I would have remembered. Maybe it's because I have the PAL version?

The character models have to look better than that shot up there. It looks worse than most anime styled games.

Cool, it's good that they are really making the games better than just "simple remakes". Stuff like this can add to the overall game.

gotta catch em all lol, im going to buy all of these. Playing SO3 was enough, that game rocks!!!

SO2 would crash when the game was loading after battles when the screen would turn black. The screen would turn black and stay black, until I reset the game. It seemed to happen in some parts of the game more than others, but it happened the most in that hidden dungeon that lacked save points.

Well I can't complain because now I can take SO2 off my psp and get this.
I wonder how the voice acting will be. It wasn't bad on the psx SO2 so this should be really good.

And the only time the 2nd one crashes is when you do head splitter and you are ike RIGHT DEAD CENTER n the middle of a giant flying bird thingy in the colleseum. Or if you are hackin.

You know what, they better get rid of the colleseum glitch where you can get stuck in a battle forever because of elements

I can't wait for these two games. I never got to play the first game, as it was never released outside of Japan and the second game crashed alot. These games may be what finally rips me away from Oblivion on the PS3.
