Moray Estates Development Company Ltd. have created plans for a new town at Tornagrain, mid-way between Inverness and Nairn, and close to Inverness Airport.
The town - which when complete, will be home to 10,000 people - has been designed by world renowned urban designer Andres Duany of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company.
This is
site provides background to
how we researched and developed our proposal
when the Tornagrain area was identified as one of several areas suitable to enable Inverness to grow over the coming decades.
We then used the research to develop our
vision
for a new town.
The vision was then opened to debate at a
charrette
: a consultation process never before used in the UK. The September 2006 charrette gave the public and specialists alike the opportunity to influence the new town proposal.
The charrette culminated in the production of a
masterplan
and
illustrations
of how the new town would work and look.
You can download a copy of the
pre-charrette paper
, (1.5 MB pdf) which describes in more detail the charrette consultation process, and the
post-charrette newspaper (3MB pdf)
, which provides you with more details of the proposal. Copies were sent to all households in the area around Tornagrain.
