2008 Broadcasting Deals In The Dumper
Number of stations sold down 27%; value off by almost 51%
There were nearly 27% fewer radio stations sold last year compared to 2007, and the total value of stations sold was down almost 51%, according to a survey just released by BIA. The Chantilly, Va.-based broadcasting research firm has determined that 778 radio stations were sold for a total of $756 million.


R&R's offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King. Jr. Day and will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Have a safe and happy holiday!

WSJ: CC To Cut 7% Of U.S. Workforce
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday (Jan. 16) that Clear Channel intends to lay off about 7% of its U.S. staff, or 1,500 employees, on Tuesday (Jan. 20) and replace more local shows with syndicated content in an effort to save about $400 million in costs. The report follows a similar one in Friday's New York Post.

Lindy Grabs Bull By The Horns
R&R has confirmed that Scott Lindy will be the new program director of Clear Channel country WUBL (94.9 the Bull)/Atlanta beginning next week. In addition to programming the Bull, Lindy will assume operations manager stripes for the six station cluster, which, in addition to the 'UBL includes regional Mexican WBZY, news/talk WGST, active rock WKLS, AC WWLG and Spanish AC WWVA. This marks a return to Clear Channel for Lindy, who programmed WPOC/Baltimore from 1997-2002.

Land To Program WTMJ
Journal executive vice president Steve Wexler announces that Tom Land, the company's Milwaukee operations manager and director of radio programming for the entire broadcast group, will add PD responsibilities for news/talk WTMJ/Milwaukee. He replaces Tom Parker who exited last November.
