Show Summary

Originally created by cartoonist Matt Groening, "Our Favorite Family," has graced the small screen in one form or another for over 20 years. The Simpson family first appeared on television as the subjects of interstitial "shorts" on The Tracey Ullman Show in April of 1987. The Simpsons More remained a staple on The Tracey Ullman Show for three seasons until they premiered in their own half-hour series, on December 17, 1989. With the help of Jim Brooks and Sam Simon, Matt Groening's cartoon family turned into an instant success.

Set in Springfield, the average American town, the show focuses on the antics and everyday adventures of the Simpson family; Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, as well as a virtual cast of thousands. Since the beginning, the series has been a pop culture icon, attracting hundreds of celebrities to guest star. The show has also made name for itself in its fearless satirical take on politics, media and American life in general.

Currently in its 21st season, The Simpsons has piled up over 440 episodes, over 20 Emmy Awards, a handful of music albums, countless endorsements and merchandise, and even made the jump to the silver screen in the summer of 2007 with The Simpsons Movie . And according to Matt Groening, "There is no end in sight."

    2 Terrible

If the saying is true that "TV warps your mind" then it's because of shows like this. hide show

I agree with RyanCooney, although I actually stopped watching the Simpsons right around season 7. It was funny for my generation growing up. Now, it's just one tired moment after another of tasteless weathered humor.. If that wasn't bad enough, they sort of followed in Family Guy's footsteps probably as a feeble attempt to stay somewhat modern. Nice try. The voices drive me crazy! Every time I hear Lisa's voice nowadays I cringe.. All she's programmed to say are meaningless platitudes and she always tries to take pseudo-adult perspectives on silly situations. Marge's voice is just depressing.

I haven't watched this show in almost 20 years and I, too, am downright shocked when I turn on the TV to find that this show still at it. As RyanCooney said, I'm sure it's due to greed on Matt G's part but who knows.. ABC finally kicked some of their long-running soaps to the curb, maybe Fox ought to stop beating the dead horse (that is the Simpsons) as well.

    The best hide show

Well , i have to admit that the modern simpsons is not that awesomeness as the old simpsons was but the simpsons still the best animated series i have ever seen , i don't know how people compare between the simpsons and other cartoon shows like family guy and south park , they are good shows but they never reach the sense of humor and the comedy level the simspons reached , the simpsons is the basis of animated shows and the inspiring one to the other shows , yeah that is a fact , watch the other shows and try to concentrate and remember and you will find that most of the jokes said in other series , the simpsons said them before ! May be the last ten seasons the simpsons level decreased but it still the best animated series and one of best comedy shows in the history and still Homer simpsons character is the best comedy character in the history of tv shows , it's nice to watch simpsons and as some people said here tv would be suck without simpsons

Finally : This show deserved 10/10 and sorry for my weak english , I hope u understand what i said :D

    8 Great

Impossible to Rate as a Whole hide show

I have settled on 8 out of 10 as an overall mark but in reality it is impossible to mark The Simpsons twenty something seasons as a whole.

The first couple of seasons were fairly good without ever really standing out above other TV comedies. Once The Simpsons hit its stride though from seasons three to about season eleven or twelve there wasn't else on TV that could even come close to matching the level of intelligence and humour it was capable of.

Since then however the show has been in steady decline and now, as we approach 500 episodes, I can't even bring myself to watch it anymore.

I once great cartoon that droped faster that the crash of 1929. Matt Groening please put the Simpsons out of its misery. hide show

I used to love this show. I even had those episode guide books. Around season 11 the show started going down hill. I gave it a chance until the 14 season and than I called it quits. I can't believe that it's still going. Will it every end. Apperently Matt Groening sees no end in site and thinks it's better than ever. Once and a while I'll try and give it a chance but then I get depressed and change the channel. The only reason this is still on is Matt Greoning got greedy and is now only in it for the money. The Simpsons is now a tastless bluder.
