The Bravliest Baby :
At the local playground, monkey bars and a slide doubled as "Mount Neverrest", on the Rugrats' latest adventure. However, Tommy lost his grip and fell. While Angelica's Cynthiamobile broke his fall, he escaped uninjured, but there's one problem -- he became a fraidy cat. This led to Angelica's own test of bravery, which will determine who's the new bravest Rugrat -- or at least, see… read more »

Show Summary

In the year 1989, two married parents named Gsapo Csupo and Arlene Klasky made the pilot for the show; their baby son, Brendon, was their inspiration to create the Rugrats. After showing it to Nickelodeon they automatically liked it and turned it into a series; in three years, Rugrats had aired More more than fifty episodes. With a total of sixty five episodes they stopped making new episodes and Rugrats was shown in primetime in 1994; after that, the popularity of the show increased. Nickelodeon realized what good ratings they had and they decided to air brand new episodes of Rugrats in 1997; it was so popular that it had its first movie to be shown in theaters the following year featuring a new Rugrat named Dil. After the movie, they aired even more new episodes, including Dil with them on the show; then again in the year 2000, Nickelodeon made a second movie for the Rugrats, giving Chuckie a stepmom and featuring another new Rugrat named Kimi. More new episodes aired after that with Kimi and in the year 2001, Nick had big plans for the show. With Rugrats in their tenth year, so Arlene Klasky and Nickelodeon decided to make the Rugrats ten years older in their anniversary special, "All Growed Up;" this episode was the most viewed Rugrats-related episode.

Originally, there were only four young rugrats who would sit in their playpen watching the world go by. The fearless leader of the group was Tommy Pickles, a resourceful baby who hides a plastic screwdriver in his diaper so that they can leave the pen. His best friend was Chuckie, a fearful, red-haired toddler who reluctantly agreed to venture out into the open, unsafe areas of the house. There were also the twins Phil and Lil who were always ready for any new challenge. Leaving the safety of their own playpen, the children would explore their surroundings and try to make sense out of what the adults are doing. Some of the most interesting characters were the parents and Tommy and Angelica's grandfather who would always fall asleep when taking care of the children. The parents' comments are so genuine that they bring a sense of reality to the show. Even the parents had different lives, with Chuckie's widowed father, and Angelica's loving father and busy mother.

  • 20th Anniversary coming soon!!!

Hey everyone!!! Next year will be 2011 and you know what that means... RUGRATS' 20th anniversary!!! I just think that Nickshould at least try to put some of the older shows back on TV in time for Rugrats anniversary or more importantly, put Rugrats back on TV! What do you think Nick should do More for Rugrats' 20th anniversary?

  • Do you remember Rugrats videos?

I found a bunch of videos containing Rugrats episodes in my video cabinet and I would like to know if you ever seen these tapes. They are made by Nickelodeon and Paramount and are the following videos, 1. Angelica The Divine, 2. Doctor Tommy Pickles, 3. Chuckie The Brave, 4. Bedtime More Bash, 5. A Baby's Gotta Do What A Baby's Gotta Do, 6. A Rugrats Passover, 7. Tales From The Crib, 8. Rugrats Vacation, What also made the videos unique was they had exclusive never before seen episodes of Inside Out Boy The Adventures Of Safety Queen and The Off-Beats, Are these tapes collector's items for Rugrats fans?, Tiki

An amazing cartoon that really hasn't had the credit that it actually deserves!

    hide show

In the early 90s, Klasky/Csupo were working on "The Simpsons", everybody knows what that show is, no need to go into detail! But they saw that kids could appreciate that kind of humor as well, so they developed a show with similar humor to the Simpsons but for a younger audience, the finishing result was alas Rugrats!

It was one of the very first Nicktoons ever made, and continued to be a success the longest out of all three of them! Of course, I wasn't alive when the show first came on the air, I am almost 16 years old, so that gives you a clue to my age, but that doesn't matter, I still loved and appreciated this show!

The show came back, after a 2-year hiatus or so, due to the success of the reruns and the holiday specials, and to be honest, I loved the newer episodes! What I love about this show is that it has great character development, all the characters are incredibly likeable, and yes this actually means Angelica! (spoiler alert!) She might be portrayed as the mean cousin of Tommy's, but actually, it's because she feels resentful towards them and that she doesn't wanna be treated like a baby, else she does have respect for them, if you watch the show from the beginning!

This ended up with a theatrical movie that added in a new character: Dil! The movie was a success, but some people say the show went downhill when they added Dil to the show, as well as a second feature-length film: Rugrats in Paris(Which actually, is for EVERYBODY! There are some jokes and references for adults in there, believe me!) that introduced Chuckie's stepsister Kimi, and fans believed the show went downhill from there!

I am probably gonna get attacked by this, but I disagree! I know shows go downhill, but this to me, actually turned out better as the series progressed! I do think Dil should've at least spoken to the babies or something more, don't get me wrong, I do agree there, and Kimi was more or less like Tommy, except a girl, but still, shows have taken even worse paths, this didn't take a bad path, in my opinion!

Eventually, there was a movie in 2003 called "Rugrats Go Wild" which was a crossover-between two of Klasky-Csupo's currently-airing shows at that time: Rugrats and the Wild Thornberrys! It didn't do as well as the first two, but it was still pretty decent, in my opinion!

However, the same year, they made the spin-off "All Grown Up" with Rugrats alongside it, and they eventually cancelled Rugrats, why?! Klasky-Csupo was being bankrupt and Nickelodeon didn't want them producing most of the Nicktoons and wanted to give others a chance! In 2004, it was eventually canned, and sadly so, as this is the show that put Nickelodeon on the map!

From 2005-present, SpongeBob SquarePants has dominated and continues to dominate Nickelodeon, and what's worse is that the Paul Tibbitt(guy who took over after Stephen Hillenburg left) episodes get more credit, but still, both episodes of the show get more credit than Rugrats, did since 2005, and continues to this day! Now, I love the older SpongeBobs, but isn't that like FOX treating Family Guy better than the Simpsons?! FOX are pretty much doing that at the moment, which is a disgrace!

However, in recent years, I got Facebook and I managed to get in contact with a bunch of Classic Nickelodeon fans and together, we've been trying to fight for classic Nickelodeon to come back! Most of the credit goes to the lovely person that created the "Bring back Classic Nickelodeon" page! If anything, she cares about Nickelodeon alot and it's future, and thus resulting in the 90s are All That block on TeenNick! I also know Cheryl Chase and EG Daily via there and they are really nice people, and if anything, they are interested in seeing new episodes(and believe me, no one wants Rugrats back more, than Cheryl herself), and being a part of them!

I'm hoping the reruns on TeenNick will do this show some justice(the show's end date on here is wrong though, it ended in 2004!), it did alot for Nickelodeon and has had enough fan-support and I know reruns can bring a show back! It happened last time, it'll happen again, just keep being optimistic and someday, this show'll come back! This show is one of the finest cartoons ever made and deserves to be up there along with the Simpsons as one of the greatest cartoons ever made, I hope this show reclaims it's title!

"Rugrats" is the first Nickeldeon cartoon that I've ever saw in my childhood hide show

Oh yes, the glory days of Nickelodeon when it was just all about cartoons back then but now, it's just about these teen sitcoms which I'm okay with but I always saw Nickelodeon was a cartoon channel. Well... before "SpongeBob SquarePants" premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999. The first Nickelodeon cartoon that I've ever saw was "Rugrats" and I just absolutely loved it. It was one of the best things that made my childhood wonderful and glorious. I remember my mom would watch this cartoon with me. She wasn't really a fan of "Rugrats" but she only watched it because she knows that I loved "Rugrats" so much and mom sure loved seeing me laugh and smile while watching this cartoon. Even though I am grown up, I know that I would still love to watch "Rugrats". Everyone says that this cartoon went downhill when Kimi and Dil came in the newer episodes but I didn't see any problems with it back then and I still enjoyed the episodes with them. All of the characters in this cartoon were absolutely loveable except for Angelica. I just hated Angelica's behavior in this cartoon but I still loved the cartoon even though Angelica was the only problem. I love most of the storylines and I think that the writers were very creative with this cartoon. "Rugrats: All Grown Ups" (Rugrats crew in their teenage years) doesn't beat the classic and lovable "Rugrats" but that cartoon isn't bad... it's just that "Rugrats" is better. Overall, "Rugrats" is a classic cartoon that brought me happiness and laughter which I will never forget... thanks for my happy and glorious childhood "Rugrats" and you're one of the cartoons that I will never forget. 10/10

    7.5 Good
One of the best examples of a cartoon that was once great, but went horribly downhill. hide show

"Rugrats" is the 2nd Nicktoon. It premiered in 1991, and ended in 1994. Then they revived it in '96 and it lasted until 2004. The show had a good formula, that didn't get too tired, or worn out, and it was very fun to watch, and is still funny. Now it had kind of a rocky start though. Season 1 was actually kind of boring. The voices were quiet, the humor was dry, and the animation was very scraggly, and rough. But by season 2 it got better. The animation slightly improved, the jokes got funnier, and the voice acting could actually be understood without having to turn your TV volume up all the way. But a problem this show still suffered with was childish toilet humor. A lot of the jokes dealt with poop, pee, and other disgusting substances. But other than that, the show was still good. I loved it when I was little, and I love it now. In 1994 "Rugrats" was canceled. But due to reruns getting the show more popularity, the revived it in 1996. But the bad news about that is: that made Ren & Stimpy get canceled. Yes in '91 three Nicktoons premiered

First was "Doug" a good little show about an 11 year old boy moving to a new town. That show was always funny, and fun to watch.

Second was "Rugrats" the one I'm reviewing right now. It was probably the weakest of the three, and got canceled fast to make room for new Nicktoons. But revived later and kicked the third one (wich I am gonna talk about next) out of the way. Wich was very sad 'cause that one was the best of the three.

The third one was "The Ren & Stimpy Show" wich if you ask me, was the best of the bunch. It was clever, funny, and had a Looney Tunes feel, while being fresh and new at the same time. It had a decent run, but sadly the ratings dropped when "Rugrats" was revived.

The new episodes weren't as good. They were more childish, juevinile, and far more grotesque than the originals. And David Doyle (the voice of Grandpa Lou) passed away in 1997, and then was replaced by Joe Alaskey who made Lou sound too much like Sylvester. Then in '98 "The Rugrats Movie" came out and introduced the monster that is Dil Pickles. Tommy's new baby brother who did nothing, but poop, pee, drool and fart. And worst of all, the new episodes were all about baby-sitting Dil, and he just ruined all the fun. While the show was turning into a pile of crap, in 2000 "Rugrats in Paris: The Movie" was released, and it proved to be much better than the first, and the best thing to do with the babies in years. But if you ask me, they shouldn't have did more episodes. They should've ended it right there. These new episodes were terrible. They contained none of the subtle more mature humor the originals had. "Rugrats" became a half-hour of potty humor, and one of the worst shows on Nickelodeon.

    Season 1 (1991): 6/10

    1992-1994 era: 9/10

    1996-1998 era: 7/10

    Dil era - 1998-2000: 4/10

    Kimi era - 2000-2004: 1/10

    PROS:

-Season 1-3 contained a lot of subtle humor that most kids wouldn't get. Very, very, very well-written.

-Good characters. Even though Phil and Lil were gross, Angelica was evil, Dil was annoying, and Kimi was a female Tommy. Chuckie, Tommy, and the parents were very funny, and very likeable.

-Great voice acting. E.G. Daily, Christine Cavanaugh, Cheryl Chase, Kath Soucie, David Doyle, and Michael Bell were excellent voice actors / actresses. And even though Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson) is a good voice actress, when she was the new Chuckie in 2002, she made him sound too much like Bart.

    CONS:

-Toilet humor. I know they're babies, and they don't know any better, but come on! Stop with the constant poop jokes. I hated the episode "Chuckie V.S The Potty" just because that's all it was. And "Grandpa's Bad Bug" almost made me throw up. It's childish, juevinile, and stupid. This is something that was in it since the beginning.

-The newer episodes. I hate them. I can't stand these 30-minute fart jokes.

-This show kicked off the great Ren & Stimpy?!?! I don't get it. How could they do that. That's just wrong. R&S; are awesome. Shame on you Nickelodeon. "Rugrats" became a cash-cow that Nickelodeon just milked, and milked, and milked, to the point of getting rid of their best show.

    Rating: 75% "Good"

It's good, but I feel it is the weakest of the original 3 Nicktoons, and it has flaws such as the constant toilet humor, the later episodes, and I still don't understand how it could get Ren & Stimpy canceled. But I loved it as a kid, and even today the early episodes are funny, and entertaining. Overall a good cartoon, but it has some flaws.

    -Cartoon King
