The Hours is a 2002 drama about three women living in different times who are all connected by the book "Mrs. Dalloway" by Virginia Woolf. Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman) is having difficulty writing her latest book, "Mrs. Dalloway," in 1923. She is beset by suicidal thoughts, which worries her husband, Leonard (Stephen Dillane). Twenty-eight years later, Laura Brown (Julianne Moore) is living in Los Angeles, expecting the birth of her second child. Despite her outwardly happy life, she is quite miserable and is considering killing herself to escape her dreary life. Fifty years later, Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) is planning a party for her one-time lover, Richard Brown (Ed Harris), a poet who is dying from AIDS. While Virginia is writing "Mrs. Dalloway" and Laura is reading "Mrs. Dalloway," Clarissa virtually embodies the character in her fastidious behavior. The Hours explores the way in which art can run like a thread through strangers' lives, uniting their common difficulty in finding a happy life. more less
