Today we stand at the turn of a century for a new millennium. With the new millennium at hand, the mankind's desire to live in harmony in a free, peaceful world devoid of any aggression, subjugation and war gets stronger as days go by.
However, the Cold War still lingers on in Korea, counter to the trend of the times and there continues an abnormal situation under which the Korean people divided by the Cold War have been suffering from the division for more than half a century.
This is owing to the fact that the South Korean authorities pursue only division and confrontation in cahoot with outside forces, by building up anti-reunification barriers like the reinforced concrete wall of Korea. December 29th of this year marks the 20th anniversary of the erection of the Korean Wall on the south side of the Military Demarcation Line.
Today, the Government, political parties and organizations of the DPRK, in response to the unanimous demand and heartfelt desire of the entire Korean people for the immediate demolition of the Korean Wall and the early reunification, the nation's long-cherished desire, send this appeal to their counterparts of all countries across the world.
The Korean Wall built by the South Korean authorities 20 years ago is the largest of physical barriers in Korea, cutting the main blood artery of our nation. It bisects the national territory and is a symbol of the nation's division and the north-south confrontation.
The Korean Wall extends over 240 Kilometers, 5-3 meters high, 10-19 meters wide at the base and 3-7 meters on the top. It severs 8 counties, 122 villages, 3 main railways, 3 highways and 220-odd small and medium roads.
This monstrous wall has no comparison to any state border in a country's territory. The South Korean authorities have installed countless pillboxes and gun positions and fortified the Korean Wall as a bridgehead for northward invasions. The Korean Wall allows mechanized forces including tanks and armored vehicles charge swiftly in case of emergency.
The South Korean authorities built the unprecedented gigantic wall of division under the outside force's patronage and instigation, in disregard of the destiny of the nation, thus leaving indelible disgrace in the sacred motherland. This is a never-to-be pardoned criminal act against the reunification and Korea.
Today our fellow countrymen in the north, south and overseas, in their earnest desire for reunification, strongly demand the immediate dismantling of the cursed Korean Wall, which artificially bisects the nation that had lived in harmony for generations on one land while creating time-honored history and culture spanning over 5,000 years.
However, the south Korean authorities under the veil of the "people's government" turn a deaf ear to the just demand for pulling down the Korean Wall, doggedly denying its existence and ignoring denouncements by the international community.
Instead, they lay all the more political and legal barriers separating the north and south and blocking reunification. Reality bears testimony to the fact that the South Korean authorities have neither the intention to promote sincere reconciliation and unity with us nor any will to have the country reunited.
The so-called "reconciliation" and 'cooperation' mouthed by them under the signboard of the "sunshine policy' are in fact no more than a deceptive plot to veil their separatist true colors.
That these anti-reunification moves of the South Korean authorities are encouraged and connived by the the United States is an undeniable fact. A decade ago, the United States had welcomed with much delight the fall of the Berlin wall, the symbol of East-West confrontation. At that time the world expected the Korean Wall to tumble down soon after. This notwithstanding, the United States turns a blind eye to the Korean Wall and continues to egg on the south Korean authorities for further confrontations with the DPRK.
The United States has worked out a plan for another adventurous aggression code-named "operations plan 5027-98" and specified the scale and timetable of its troops to be immediately hurled into the Korean peninsula in case of emergency. The United States supplies the latest war materiel to the south Korean authorities on a large scale and stages combined military exercises one after another, thus driving the situation of the Korean peninsula to the brink of war.
Due to the provocative maneuvers for a new war by the United States and the south Korean authorities, the Korean peninsula is the hottest spot in the world today, and our fellow countrymen are languishing as ever in danger of war coupled with a half century of the tragedy of division, undergoing double and triple misfortunes and sufferings.
The daily-aggravated situation prevailing in the Korean peninsula shows patently that we can never expect improvement of the inter-Korean relations and progress of the reunification so long as the anti-reunification barriers including the Korean Wall are left standing. The Korean Wall, the symbol of division and confrontation, should no longer be tolerated as it poses a challenge and insult to the justice and conscience of the mankind.
The south Korean authorities should remove without delay all political and physical barriers running counter to the desire of the nation and the trend of the times and take the road of reconciliation in alliance with the north and of reunification.
As the prime author of the Korea's division, the United States should ponder over its due responsibility for the Korean Wall, which still stands ten years after the fall of the Berlin wall, and lend an ear to the just demand of the Korean people and peace-loving peoples of the world for its immediate removal.
Our people, upholding the respected Gen. Kim Jong Il as the lodestar of reunification, will resolutely counter the moves of the anti-reunification separatist forces within and without by the united effort of the whole nation and surely accomplish the historic cause of national reunification in the near future.
Today, pulling down the Korean Wall at an early date and achieving unity and reunification of the nation is an urgent task for peace and security of the Korean peninsula as welt as of Asia and the rest of the world.
The Government, political parties and organizations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea express hope and conviction that the governments, political parties and organizations of all countries of the world that love justice and peace will extend active support to and solidarity with our patriotic and reunification-oriented efforts to bring down the Korean Wall.
