"In hindsight, it seems preordained that we came to Tadao Ando's architecture through Richard Serra and Ellsworth Kelly. We first heard of Ando in the late 1980s from the sculptor Richard Serra who had just returned from a trip to Japan. When I asked Ellsworth Kelly if he knew about Tadao Ando's work, he replied by sending us recent publications about Ando's buildings. After looking at them, my husband and I said with one voice, 'This is it. This is the architect we want to create our space.'"
