The companies backing Resource21, a venture proposing to launch a satellite-based agricultural monitoring system, are moving ahead with the project, Resource21 announced Aug. 2.

High-resolution imagery from the Eros A1 satellite is now available through special order via e-mail under a test program initiated July 23 by ImageSat International (ISI), the Limassol, Cyprus-based operator of the Eros system.
Landsat Wins Three-Month Reprieve
EarthWatch and ERDAS Enter Software Partnership
NASA?s Landsat 5 Earth observing satellite won a stay of execution June 2 as the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Space Imaging reached an accord that will keep the aging spacecraft operating for another three months. EarthWatch Inc., Longmont, Colo., and Atlanta-based ERDAS, Inc. will form a strategic partnership to provide software for the QuickBird satellite, Earthwatch said in a June 25 statement.
New Weather Satellite Also Will Track Solar Activity
A new U.S. geostationary-orbiting weather satellite to be launched in July will provide near-continuous coverage of solar flares in addition to monitoring weather conditions here on Earth, U.S. government officials said.
