NASA?s coastal Florida spaceport and other agency centers across the nation reopened Thursday, but it wasn?t exactly business as usual in the wake of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C.
    U.S. Aerospace Companies Take Precautions in Light of U.S. Attack
     
In light of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, officials at Lockheed Martin Space Systems placed their already secure facilities on a heightened state of alert, said Steve Tatum, a Lockheed Martin spokesman. The company operates space-oriented facilities in several locations, including Sunnyvale, Calif., and Newtown, Pa.

    U.S. Air Force Will Not Fund X-33, X-34 Vehicles
     
The U.S. Air Force has decided not to adopt NASA?s orphaned X-33 and X-34 experimental rockets or take on a greater role in the agency?s X-37 space vehicle program, according to industry and government sources.
    Boeing to Play Role in PanAmSat Satellite Contract
     
Despite being passed over by PanAmSat Corp. for a satellite contract earlier this year, Boeing Co. still will play a role in the project.
    Lockheed Martin Sells Three Satellites To GE Americom
     
Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems of Newtown, Pa., has landed an order for three A2100 geostationary communications satellites from GE American Communications Inc. (GE Americom), according to an industry source.
