TCA Awards: Pose, Russian Doll, Fleabag, Good Fight, Schitt’s Creek Score Multiple Nominations

Pose is very much en vogue with members of the Television Critics Association: The group honored FX’s groundbreaking LGBTQ drama on Wednesday with a leading four nominations for the 35th annual TCA Awards . Netflix’s breakout comedy Russian Doll also snagged four nods from the org, which counts several TVLine staffers among its members.

Pose and Russian Doll will compete in the coveted Program of the Year category alongside Chernobyl , Game of Thrones ,  When They See Us and Fleabag .

Several established series — most notably Pop TV’s  Schitt’s Creek and CBS All Access’  The Good Fight — entered the TCA Awards fray for the first time, with each series scoring two nods apiece.

Notable snubs include This Is Us , RuPaul’s Drag Race and last year’s Individual Achievement in Comedy winner, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan.

The TCA Awards will take place Saturday, Aug. 3 in Los Angeles.

    ‘The Good Fight’ when CBS put it on its summer prime time schedule. It’s a top rate
    scripted drama. Looking forward to subsequent episodes!!!

  3. Oh wow the “Individual Achievement in Drama” category is STACKED. Anybody nominated in that would be deserving (though I may have to put some bias towards Jodie Comer, she was beyond stellar in the second season of Killing Eve)

  4. Good God almighty, what a crap list in comedy. Dramas masquerading as comedies (Barry, Russian Doll), has-beens who have no business within a hundred miles of this (Pamela Adlon, Catherine O’Hara???????????) and the best show on TV only getting one nomination (Comedy Program for The Good Place) when it should’ve been nommed for the max of 4? Talk about flinging stuff at a wall and seeing what stuck.

    • You’re totally right! The critically acclaimed performances of Pamela Adlon and Catherine O’Hara have no right to be nominated! Same with the critically acclaimed shows of Barry (a dark comedy) and Russian Doll (another dark comedy)!

      • Half the comedy nominees are pretty much throwaways. Schitt’s, Fleabag, Adlon, Waller-Bridge, Russian Doll, Barry, Lyonne, O’Hara…at least Ramy wasn’t nominated. Drama is fine. But it’s as if every other step the TCA took in putting in a comedy nominee was on a landmine. A shockingly bad yearly class from critics who were clearly out to lunch. It’s as if just about every undeserving actor and comedy got ushered into the TCA dance and folks like K-Bell, Brosnahan, Carden, Parsons and Helene Yorke (Individual Comedy), BBT, Brooklyn 99 and The Other Two (Comedy Program) and The Good Place + Killing Eve (Program of the Year) got launched into the street by the bouncer.

          • It’s category fraud at minimum; only 6 episodes and should be in miniseries. I hold the fact Fleabag only has a 6 episode season against it.

            • It’s not category fraud. It’s a second season of a show. It’s continuing plot lines. It literally isn’t a mini series.

            • I’ve never watched this Fleabag show, but what does the episode count have to do with it? Isn’t it about the show and the performance. Also Fleabag is a British show and most British shows tend to have short seasons (e.g., AbFab, Miranda, etc.)

    • Are you kidding me? Catherine O’Hara is hilarious on Schitt’s Creek. She’s long overdue for some recognition for such a brilliant, funny show.

  6. How the most critically acclaimed actor of the year, Jared Harris for Chernobyl, is missing from getting an acting nomination is UNBELIEVABLE. How is that possible?

    • The TCA awards don’t distinguish between lead and supporting performances. Which means both categories are united here in terms of individual achievement and a lead actor or a supporting actor is eligible. I suspect that’s why Harris didn’t make the final cut in drama individual achievement.

  7. Glad there were other critics in the mix, I think these correct a few of TV Line’s Dream Nominees omissions that raised my eyebrow (who am I kidding I am mainly talking about KILLING EVE lol).

  8. The Good Fight, best program, yay, but anyone watching on CBS right now is watching a censored version. CBS Access’s original series is worth every penny (unless you cover your ears at naughty language). Glad to see Chernobyl on this list: Horrifying, heartbreaking, infuriating. Glad Jodie Comer is finally recognized for the true star she is. Michelle Williams playing Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdon was as great as Arquette was in Escape from Dannemora. Baranski is genius in The Good Fight too. Tough category, best individual treatment in drama.
