Pokrenut kao nedeljnik 1925. godine, ?asopis sada izlazi 47 puta godi?nje, pri ?emu pet od njegovih izdanja pokriva dvonedeljne periode. The New Yorker je osnovao Harold Ros i njegova supruga D?ejn Grant , reporter Njujork tajmsa . ?asopis je debitovao 21. februara 1925. godine. Ros je ?eleo da kreira sofistikovani humoristi?ki magazin koji bi se razlikovao od primetno ?banalnih” publikacija sa humorom, poput Sudije , gde je radio, ili starog ?asopisa ?ivot . Ros je u saradnji sa preduzetnikom Raulom H. Flaj?manom (koji je osnovao Generalno pekarsko preduze?e [8] ) osnovao F-R izdava?ku kompaniju. Prve kancelarije ?asopisa bile su u 25 Vest 45.
