Roman Osipovich Jakobson ( rusisht : Рома?н О?сипович Якобсо?н; 11 tetor 1896 – 18 korrik 1982) ishte nje gjuhetar dhe teoricien i letersise ruse.

Nje pionier i gjuhesise strukturore , Jakobsoni ishte nje nga gjuhetaret me te famshem dhe me me ndikim te shekullit te njezete. Me Nikolai Trubetzkoy-n , ai zhvilloi teknika te reja revolucionare per analizen e sistemeve te tingujve gjuhesore, duke themeluar ne fakt disiplinen moderne te fonologjise . Jakobsoni vazhdoi te zgjeronte parime dhe teknika te ngjashme ne studimin e aspekteve te tjera te gjuhes si sintaksa , morfologjia dhe semantika . Ai dha kontribute te shumta ne gjuhesine sllave , me se shumti dy studime per rasat e rusishtes dhe nje analize e kategorive te foljeve te rusishtes. Duke u mbeshtetur te njohurite e semiotikes nga C. S. Peirce , si dhe nga teoria e komunikimit dhe kibernetika , ai propozoi metoda per hetimin e poezise, muzikes, arteve pamore si dhe per hetimin e kinemase.

Nepermjet ndikimit te tij vendimtar mbi Claude Levi-Strauss dhe Roland Barthes , nder te tjere, Jakobson u be nje figure kryesore ne pershtatjen e analizes strukturore ne disiplina pertej gjuhesise, duke perfshire filozofine , antropologjine dhe teorine letrare ; zhvillimi i tij i qasjes se paraprire nga Ferdinand de Saussure , i njohur si " strukturalizem ", u be nje levizje e madhe intelektuale e pasluftes ne Evrope dhe ne Shtetet e Bashkuara. Nderkohe, megjithese ndikimi i strukturalizmit ra gjate viteve 1970, puna e Jakobsonit ka vazhduar te marre vemendje ne antropologjine gjuhesore , vecanerisht permes etnografise se komunikimit te zhvilluar nga Dell Hymes dhe semiotikes se kultures te zhvilluar nga ish-studenti i Jakobsonit, Michael Silverstein . Koncepti i Jakobsonit per universalet themelore gjuhesore, vecanerisht teoria e tij e njohur e tipareve dalluese , ndikuan ne menyre vendimtare ne mendimin e hershem nga Noam Chomsky , i cili u be figura dominuese ne gjuhesine teorike gjate gjysmes se dyte te shekullit te njezete. ^[1]
