Charles Francis Richter ( /r ? k t ?r / ); 26 Prill 1900 - 30 Shtator 1985) ishte nje sizmolog dhe fizikan amerikan .

Richter eshte i njohur per kontributin e tij si shpikes i shkalles se madhesise se Rihterit , e cila, deri ne zhvillimin e shkalles se madhesise (magnitudes) se momentit ne vitin 1979, maste madhesine e termeteve . Frymezuar nga letra e Kiyoo Wadati ne vitin 1928 mbi termetet e ceketa dhe te thella, Richter se pari perdori shkallen ne vitin 1935 pasi e zhvilloi ate ne bashkepunim me Beno Gutenberg ; qe te dy kane punuar ne Institutin e Teknologjise ne Kaliforni .
