Walter Edward “Turk” Broda (May 15, 1914 ? October 17, 1972) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs . He was born in Brandon, Manitoba on May 15 , 1914 to a Polish-Canadian family. He joined the Maple Leafs in 1936. Broda stepped away from hockey from 1943 to 1946 so he could fight in World War II . He returned to the Leafs in 1946.
