The Deep is a 1977 American British adventure movie directed by Peter Yates and based on the novel of the same name by Peter Benchley . It stars Robert Shaw , Jacqueline Bisset , Nick Nolte , Eli Wallach , Louis Gossett Jr. and was distributed by Columbia Pictures . ^[1] It was nominated for an Academy Award in 1978. ^[2]
