North Chungcheong Province , or  Chungcheongbuk-do  ( Korean pronunciation:   [t??uŋt???ŋbukt?o] ), is a  province  in the centre of  South Korea . It was formed in 1896 from the northeastern half of the former Chungcheong  province. The provincial capital is  Cheongju .
