Emmanuel N'Djoke Dibango (12 December 1933 ? 24 March 2020) [1] was a Cameroonian musician and songwriter. He plays the saxophone and vibraphone . He developed a musical style fusing jazz , funk and traditional Cameroonian music. He is best known for his 1972 single " Soul Makossa ", which charted in the US Billboard Hot 100 . He was born in Douala .

In March 2020, during the 2019?20 coronavirus pandemic , Dibango tested positive for COVID-19 in France. [2] On 23 March, he died in Paris due to the disease. He was 86. [1]
