Kibi Province ( 吉備? , Kibi no kuni ) was a very old province of Japan in the area as Okayama Prefecture and eastern Hiroshima Prefecture on the island of Honsh? . [1] It was sometimes called Bish? ( 備州 ) .

Kibi was divided into Bizen , Bitch? , and Bingo provinces in the late 7th century. [2]

  2. The name of these provinces was created using a kanji character from Kibi. A suffix was added according to the distance from the capital -- Bizen (備+ zen = "near"), Bitch? (備+ ch? = "middle"), and Bingo (備+ go = "far").
