Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born in
Edison, New Jersey
. Her mother is of
Italian
and
Hungarian
descent, while her father is mostly
African American
with some distant
Irish
ancestry. She has two younger brothers.
Halsey was signed by
Astralwerks
in 2014. She released her first

, later that year. In 2015, she released her album

, which went to number two on the

in 2017, which reached number one.
