Daniel Boyle (born 20 October 1956) is a British movie director and producer . He was born in Radcliffe , Lancashire into a working-class Irish Catholic family.

His movies include Shallow Grave , Trainspotting , A Life Less Ordinary , The Beach , 28 Days Later , Millions , 28 Weeks Later , Sunshine , Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours . Boyle was nominated for five BAFTA Awards and three Academy Awards . He directed the 2018 television series Trust based on the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III , the grandson of J. Paul Getty .
