Damietta is a city at the estuary of the Nile , in Egypt . Its name in Arabic is transilterated as Domyat (?????).It is an important port , about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the Mediterranean . It is the capital city of the Damietta governorate . In 2018, over 300.000 people lived in the city. In modern times, the Nile Delta is made of two branches, which start in Cairo . the Rosetta branch to the west, and the Damietta branch to the east.
