Jacoba Francisca Maria Smulders (born April 3, 1982) is a Canadian - American model , actress and voice artist . She has acted in movies and television . She played Robin Scherbatsky in the TV series How I Met Your Mother . She plays Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe .

Smulders was born in Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada . ^[1] Smulders has been married to Taran Killam since 2012. They have two daughters, Shaelyn Cado Killam (born 2009) and Janita Mae Killam (born 2015).
