Canning Town
is a
district
in the
West Ham
area of the
London Borough of Newham
in
East London
, England. It is in the area of the former
Royal Docks
on the north side of the
River Thames
. Rathbone Market is in Canning Town. Although it is near many affluent
London Docklands
developments, Canning Town remains among the 5 per cent most deprived areas in the
United Kingdom
. Many long-term residents suffer from poor health, low education and poverty. Canning Town station is on the Jubilee line providing connections to other areas.
