Arthur Ashkin
(September 2, 1922 – September 21, 2020) was an American scientist of Jewish descent. He worked at
Bell Laboratories
and
Lucent Technologies
. He was the second oldest Nobel Laureate in history, behind
John B. Goodenough
. He was known for his invention of
optical tweezers
in 1986.

in 2018.
Ashkin died on September 21, 2020 at his home in
Rumson

New Jersey
at the age of 98.
