This movie is based on real events of the 1979-1981 Iranian hostage crisis . The movie was about an CIA agent ( Tony Mendez ) sent to save six U.S. diplomats in Tehran , Iran. To save them, he had to pretend they were making “Argo”, a fake science-fiction film. Critics gave the movie good reviews. It won many awards for Best Movie including an Golden Globe Award for Best Picture - Drama and Best Picture at the Academy Awards .
