Ali Hassan Mwinyi (8 May 1925 – 29 February 2024) was a Tanzanian politician . [1] He was the second President of Tanzania from 1985 to 1995. [1] Before that he had been Interior Minister and Vice President . [1] He also was chairman of the ruling party, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) from 1990 to 1996. [1]

Mwinyi was born in Kivure, in the Pwani Region . He died of lung cancer at a hospital in Dar es Salaam , on 29 February 2024, at the age of 98. [2] [3]
