2022 United States Senate elections
were held on November 8, 2022. Thirty-five of one hundred seats in the
United States Senate
were contested in regular
elections
. The winners of these elections will do six-year terms from January 3, 2023 to January 3, 2029. Senators are divided into three groups, or
classes
. Class 3 Senators were last elected in 2016. Another set of Class 3 Senators were elected in 2022. 5 Republicans and 1 Democrat decided to retire before the elections.
After the elections, 51 members of the Senate will vote with the
Democratic Party
. 49 members of the Senate will vote with the
Republican Party
. This makes the Democrats the
majority
party. The Democratic Party gained one Senate seat, in
Pennsylvania
.
