Moon Jae-in

; born 24 January 1953) is a South Korean politician. He was the 12th
President
of
South Korea
from 10 May 2017 until 9 May 2022. He won the majority vote in the
2017 presidential election
.

Moon was the opposition leader of the
Minjoo Party of Korea
from 2015 to 2016. He was a member of the 19th
National Assembly
. He was the
Democratic United Party
's candidate for the
2012 presidential election
after winning a majority in the party
primaries
. However, lost the election to
Park Geun-hye
.
He was formerly a lawyer and chief of staff to late President
Roh Moo-hyun
prior to getting into politics.
In April 2018, Moon and
Kim Jong-un
formerly attended the
inter-Korean summit of 2018
. They both agreed to formally end the
Korean War
before 2019.
