William Joseph Schallert (July 6, 1922 ? May 8, 2016) was an American actor. He played the father on The Patty Duke Show . He is also known for his guest-star roles in The Smurfs , Jefferson Drum , Gunsmoke , Star Trek , Get Smart , Lawman , Matlock , The Waltons , Bonanza , The Andy Griffith Show and in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .
